Dear PVUMC Family,

“Martha, Martha, you are anxious and troubled about many things, but one thing is necessary. Mary has chosen the good portion, which will be not be taken away from her” (Luke 10: 41-42).
When Jesus entered a village, Martha invited him to her house. She had a sister, named Mary. While Martha was busy preparing food for Jesus, Mary was sitting beside him and listened to his teaching. Martha was a little bit upset, because her sister, Mary didn’t help her. So, Martha asked Jesus to tell Mary to help her. At that time, Jesus said that Mary had chosen the better choice. What did Martha do? And what did Mary do? Martha was “Doing” something for Jesus. But, Mary was “Being” with Jesus. Because of “Doing,” Martha couldn’t be with Jesus. That’s why Jesus said that Mary had chosen the good option. Prayer is “Being” with Jesus. If we are busy “Doing” something, so we cannot have time to pray, we are missing an important portion. Jesus prefers us to “Be” with him, rather than “Do” something for him. Are you with Jesus Christ today?

Last Sunday, we celebrated God’s love, grace, and blessings for our church for 128 years. It was such a blessed anniversary Sunday. I would like to express my gratitude from my heart to all of you who gave your hands to prepare our anniversary. Thank you so much. I am expecting another 128 years to be used for God’s salvation for many people.

This Saturday, 10/29, we will do “Trunk or Treat” in our parking lot from 4pm to 5:15pm. Please come and join. Also, please invite your neighbors, especially kids. You can stop by to support us as well. If you have any questions, you can contact Megan Plank, our Children’s Ministry Director.

We will have a “Charge Conference” right after the Sunday Service on 10/30. “Charge Conference” is the conference of our church to prepare our ministries for next year. This is an open conference, so if you want to join our “Charge Conference,” please stay in the sanctuary after the service.

Our mission committee has planned to participate in the special Food-Drive Ministry for the Thanksgiving Season. We are collecting certain items for this “Thanksgiving Holiday Food Assistance.” The list is below.
Canned Vegetables (Corn, Peas, mixed veg), Potatoes - Instant (box), Canned fruit, Chicken Broth (Can or Box), Rice (1 lb bag), Brownie/Cake Mix (Choose 1), Frosting for Cake Mix (not needed for Brownies), Sugar (4 lb bag), Oil (48 oz or less), Flour (2 lb bag), and Juice (plastic bottle only). We are collecting those items until November 13th. If you have any questions, please contact our office or Pam Graham (Mission Committee Chair).

“Being” with God is more important than “doing” something for God, because God wants us to be with Him first. If we cannot “Be” with God because we are “doing” something for God, God won’t be pleased. So, “Being” must be first. Through praying to God and reading the Word of God, we are “being” with God.

Love in Christ,

Eugene
