Last year the CLC partnered with Perlego, billed by the press as the “Spotify/Netflix for textbooks.” Perlego collaborates with leading publishers including Zondervan, IVP, Baker, Eerdmans, and many others to grant access to their content on a subscription-based model. Each user on Perlego has access to a personal library of over 1 million books and can personalize the learning experience through features such as highlights and annotations. CLC member institutions are offered a discounted rate on access to these titles for their users. We are looking ahead to renewal for next year, as volume discounts increase with greater participation. Since last year, Perlego has developed significantly, with new content, and updates including a dictionary, a timer, professor assignment capabilities, and a text coloring tool. This month we are highlighting another CLC member benefit – a discount on the R2 Digital Library from Rittenhouse. R2 Digital Library is a web-based collection of health science eBooks enabling access to multiple publishers on one platform. Institutions can purchase individual titles in the clinical areas of Nursing, Allied Health and Medicine. With our consortial discount, the annual maintenance fee, typically $1,200 is reduced to $400 annually for each participating institution. The fee will be waived in the first year for any institution making their first purchase. An existing active customer can take advantage the reduced annual maintenance fee. Rittenhouse offers a no-obligation evidence based PDA (Patron Driven Acquisition) program, which is a great option for a no-risk eBook Collection. In last month’s newsletter, we didn’t get the opportunity to share the full details of where we landed with the Springshare discount. We did reach the minimum of 5 libraries with a new subscription to LibGuides or LibGuides CMS. These libraries received a 15% discount. More good news – since we reached that threshold, additional CLC members who want to purchase LibGuides or  LibGuides CMS will also receive a 15% discount (as long as we continue to have at least a minimum total of 5 subscribers). New subscribers may purchase a subscription at any time and Springshare will pro-rate the purchase to the October-September renewal term.
