Fall/Winter holidays around the world are both unique and linked. The Day of the Dead in Mexico, Central, and South America is similar in many ways to Halloween in North America; Thanksgiving in North America comes at the same time as Guy Fawkes Day in England and harvest festivals in Southeast Asia. Celebrations of light include Hannukah and Christmas, traditional times of holiday markets, family gatherings, with exclamations of hope, peace and love. And of course New Year's Eve is filled with fireworks and celebration from Times Square to the Eiffel Tower to Sydney’s opera house.

Wherever you are in the world, have a joyous holiday season!

Holiday Travel Facts

During this holiday period, traveling spikes up by about 25 percent compared to the rest of the year. Thanksgiving week is one of the busiest travel holidays.  AAA recently estimated that around 50 million people travel during the long holiday weekend -- 90 percent by car.

Thanksgiving Day is actually a heavier travel day than the Wednesday that precedes it. However, airports tend to be more crowded on the Wednesday and Sunday of this holiday weekend. According to Hopper’s report, to date nearly 25 million seats are scheduled to depart on flights from U.S airports over this Thanksgiving travel week, from Sunday 11/20 to Sunday 11/27.

Travel Tip

Carry a small, inexpensive portable carbon monoxide detector when you travel.  It’s as important as a fire alarm.

Christmas, Hannukah,
& New Year's

Christmas and New Year's Eve fall on different days of the week each year, but traveling tends to be concentrated around the weekends, regardless. So keep this in mind when you book.

“There should be sympathy cards for having to go back to work after the holidays.”
