The Ramsar COP14 (November 5th - 13th, 2022) will present a critical opportunity for us to raise our ambitions and actions in safeguarding and restoring wetland ecosystems towards tackling the climate and biodiversity crises.

Wetlands International at UNFCCC COP27
From 5th – 18th November 2022, Wetlands International will be organising and participating in events at COP27, taking place in Sharm El-Sheikh, Egypt.  Our aim is to mobilise action, coalitions, and finance for safeguarding and restoring wetlands.

UNFCCC Ocean-Climate Action at COP 27
In preparation of COP27, partners including Wetlands International have prepared an options paper that details specific steps and recommendations to advance ocean-climate action under the UNFCCC.

Corredor Azul Programme: Reflection on our achievements

Higher ambition for Peatlands in the EU Nature Restoration Law
Wetlands International Europe with the support of conservationists and scientists outlines improvements to the EU Nature Restoration Law draft and calls on decision-makers to amend the proposed targets in line with a pathway that leads to net-zero CO2 emissions from peatlands by 2050.

Calls to join the 2023 Asian Waterbird Census
The Asian Waterbird Census (AWC) is a citizen-science programme that supports the conservation and management of wetlands and waterbirds worldwide. Your participation can help in promoting the designation and management of internationally important sites such as nationally and locally protected areas. Learn more here
Restoring Mediterranean wetlands: From informed policy to implementation
Wetlands International Europe, together with MedWet, BirdLife Europe, (ETC-UMA), Tour du Valat and WWF Spain, organised a closing event of the MAVA funded project “Communicating and advocating to reduce water abstraction and detrimental coastal development in Mediterranean coastal wetlands”.

Last month, our South Asia office celebrated 25 years of efforts and achievements in safeguarding and conserving wetlands in the region. The event saw active youth participation, as well as informative panel discussions and publication launches.

Senegal hosts Migratory Birds for People Network annual meeting
On the occasion of World Migratory Bird Day, our Senegal office hosted the annual meeting of the 'Migratory Birds for People (MBP)' network. The celebrations held capacity-building workshops, and organised bird watching and games with school children.
