THIS WEEK'S SCREENINGS

INNOCENT BLOOD - 30th Anniversary Screening!

Artwork by Andrew Barr

30th Anniversary Screening!

This Halloween season, check out the vampire comedy, INNOCENT BLOOD for its 30th anniversary at The Revue!

Roger Ebert once said John Landis' INNOCENT BLOOD is an uncomfortable marriage of vampires and mobsters, and he wasn't wrong. This vampire horror comedy is tonally jarring, however those are my favourite types of movies and they are often misconceived as failures due to the pressure of pleasing mainstream audiences that like being spoon fed what genre they are consuming.

In my opinion, this movie wasn't made for mainstream audiences, but rather horror fans. Who else would appreciate LA FEMME NIKITA as a vampire battling mobsters in the streets of Pittsburgh and seeing Dario Argento and Sam Raimi in split second cameos?

This is one of my many recommendations for the Halloween season at The Revue! Come see it on the big screen! - SERENA WHITNEY (Programming Director)

The Midnight Revue: HIGHWAY TO HELL - 30th Anniversary Screening!
Artwork by Andrew Barr

30th Anniversary Screening!

"HIGHWAY TO HELL has all the inner-working and structure to be one of the great cult midnight movies." - High Def Digest

HIGHWAY TO HELL is highly ambitious and full of great practical effects (and not so great computer effects) and is a mix of NIGHT OF THE DEMONS meets MAD MAX. If you ever want to see a campy movie where Rob Lowe's younger brother literally has to go through HELL to rescue the original BUFFY, then this is the movie for you!

With bizarre cameos from the entire THE STILLER family (Ben, Jerry, Amy and Anna Meara) and an even weirder cameo from Gilbert Gottfried as Hitler, we can safely say this movie is as quirky as it is unpredictable and is definitely a fun Halloween Midnight Movie watch! - SERENA WHITNEY (Programming Director)

The Saturday All-You-Can-Eat Cereal Cartoon Party (Halloween Edition) (*SOLD OUT!)

Artwork by Keenan Tamblyn

3 Hours of HALLOWEEN-THEMED Retro Cartoons, Commercials and PSAs – and all the cereal you can eat!

Hello ghosts and ghouls – are you “freddy” for a spooky Saturday morning? We are fiendishly thrilled to present an all-Halloween themed selection of cartoon fun for the trick or treating season! Kids today may not realize the significance of the Saturday morning ritual, but once upon a time, we had to wait a whole week to get our cartoon fix, and when we got it, we tended to binge. Well – welcome to the Saturday Morning All-You-Can-Eat Cereal Cartoon Party - that special time when kids and kids-at-heart get to relive the exciting Saturday Morning ritual of non-stop retro cartoons, and binge on the multi-colored sugary cereals that used to be a part of every “balanced” breakfast! The cartoon lineup is always a mystery, but expect to see monsters, sci-fi, sleuths, superheroes and all kinds of 2D silliness, both faves and obscurities spanning the '50s through the '90s, all punctuated with vintage commercials, PSAs and station IDs for a 3-hour trip down memory lane! So get ready for a sugar rush and an explosion of nostalgia all wrapped up in one candy-coated package. - DAVID BERTRAND

When Animals Attack: OF UNKNOWN ORIGIN - Presented On 35mm!

Event Poster Designed By Andrew Barr

PRESENTED ON 35MM!

This Halloween season, When Animal Attacks challenges your musophobia with the killer rat film, OF UNKNOWN ORIGIN!

Depending on your fear or love for rats, this Montreal-shot horror gem may be one of the most terrifying films to watch on the big screen or one of the funniest to witness with a crowd. To many viewers, there will be nothing funnier than watching ROBOCOP losing it as he calls war on a gigantic rat in his beautiful home while his wife and son are away on vacation. To other viewers, it may have the opposite effect.

In the film, Peter Weller plays a hard-working, intelligent business man whose world is turned upside down when a rat just won’t leave him alone. Like the films ‘FALLING DOWN or ‘TAKE SHELTER,’ OF UNKNOWN ORIGIN explores the disturbing aspect of how a small inconvenience can snowball into a situation that could legitimately drive even the most level-headed person to madness.

If you have not seen OF UNKNOWN ORIGIN, we definitely would recommend it even if you suffer from the fear of rats. The final act makes the movie and you are guaranteed to enjoy it regardless if you think it’s hilarious or downright terrifying. - SERENA WHITNEY (Programming Director)

JACK-O - New Restoration!

Artwork by Johny Bekavac

This Halloween season, check out the rarely screened Halloween slasher, JACK-O -- newly restored courtesy of The American Genre Film Archive!

JACK-O is the Halloween mash-up between TROLL 2, ARE YOU AFRAID OF THE DARK?, and FRIDAY THE 13TH PART V that you've been dreaming of. It's Halloween night in the small town of Oakmoor Crossing. And all is not well. Armed with a scythe and a literal pumpkin for a head, Mister Jack has risen from his tomb to seek revenge against a warlock's descendants and their babysitter (Linnea Quigley, RETURN OF THE LIVING DEAD). Why? We're not sure. But we are sure that JACK-O is resplendent in its Halloween vibes, autumn landscapes, and surrealist visuals. Newly restored from the original 16mm camera negative, JACK-O is a gloriously fun 1990s slasher that deserves a spot in your heart as a Halloween tradition. (AGFA)
