Say NO to Thirsty Landscapes
Less Work. Better for the Environment.

GreenTown Los Altos and Woodland Library will host a library talk Oct. 22, from 11-12:30pm. Our speakers will discuss why one of the best methods to save water is switching to drought tolerant landscapes. You'll hear from:
  • Gary Kremen, Valley Water Director, who will share information on the health of the Santa Clara Valley reservoirs. Have you seen how low they are lately?
  • Our summer interns will share the process in switching to a water-saving landscape.
  • Nikki Hanson, who led the drought-tolerant demonstration at the Woodland Library, will be your plant guide for the day.
Don't leave without getting a wildflower seed bomb from the library.

Masks required.
Oh, and check out this link for water-wise plants to replace your lawn. Sign up for the event here.

In a sea of often progress-free environmental news,
we consider this plastic reducing measure a woohoo!!!!
Let's Talk Heat Pumps
Actually Let the Experts Talk!

Got clean electricity? Make the switch from fossil fuels for home space and water heating with the help of two San Jose State University seniors who have evaluated heat pump technology. They'll explain how heat pumps work, who should get them, how to find a contractor and how to get the best price! When and where? Details here.

Tastes Great! Less Filling! 😂
Sold Out Dairy Free Taste Event.

The plant-based dairy tasting event was a sell out!
  • Many people, curious about replacing dairy from their diet, sampled different plant based milks, yogurts, cheeses and ice creams. Yum!
  • Clorofil and Acterra showed how to make homemade milk from cashews, delicious creamy sauces and perfect grilled cheese sandwiches.
These non-"moo" products - including those made from soy, oat, rice, almond, cashews, coconut, pea and others - are becoming mainstream, readily available at many grocery stores. A 2016 study based on 40,000 farms suggests plant-based milk has less environmental impact than dairy milk, but which milk has the smallest impact on the planet? Find out more here.

Experiment at home by doing your own taste test, you could be pleasantly
surprised!

Transitioning is Easy!
From Gas to Induction Range.

One of GreenTown Los Altos' board members, Connie Miller, is walking her "get rid of gas range" talk. Her new induction range looks slick and we await some recipes that we can pass on to the rest of our members!

WoW! Local Schools Promote
Walking and Biking to School.

In the first half of October, GreenTown helped Gardner Bullis, Almond Elementary, and Bullis Charter School celebrate Walk to School Day. GreenTown provided educational and encouragement materials, direct safety instruction and brought out the ever-popular blender bike! Read more here.
