Seeking Names for All Saints Sunday

As we lift these names in worship, we light candles and ring bells to honor their memory. If you would like to include the name of a loved one on our remembrance list for All Saints Sunday, please contact Susan in the church office by Tuesday November 1.

A Service of Celebration in Honor of Lisa Jacobsen
All are welcome to join us for a service of praise music to celebrate the life of Lisa Jacobsen. The service will take place on Sunday October 23 at 2 PM in the church sanctuary. Lisa passed away in July of this year. While we held a funeral service for her at that time, we also began making plans for a Celebration of Life service for later this fall, both to accommodate those who were unable to attend Lisa's service and to have the opportunity to gather and praise God in the way she loved best.

Library News
As promised, here are a couple of suggestions for “non-religious” novels on our shelves. (Although spiritual lessons may be gleaned even in secular works.):
The Handmaid’s Tale by Margaret Atwood is a dystopian tale set in New England which has overthrown the U.S. government is and is now a totalitarian state known as The Republic of Gilead. It centers on Offred, a young woman who has been assigned to be the handmaiden of a wealthy patron. She and her fellow handmaids are valued only for their ability to reproduce. This is a chilling story that resonates with the culture of today. We also have the sequel, The Testaments, available.
In a different vein, we have two books by Kristin Hannah. The first is The Nightingale, an exciting WWII story of a rescuer of Allied soldiers who have been trapped behind enemy lines in France. The second is The Great Alone, in which a troubled family seeks a new start in the wilderness of Alaska only to find that survival in the harsh environment is easier to deal with than negotiating the erratic behavior of the people closest to them.
