Seattle Metaphysical Library
December 9, 2022
Thank you for supporting the Seattle Metaphysical Library
We have LOTS of books to sell!
We have received many boxes of donated books over the past year.  We are chock full of books - no room for more.  Out they go!  We even have a Free Box, maybe more than one
See our website - Books for Sale..  You can sort by Category, Author, or Title.
We don't have the staff to do mail-order books, so you will have to come in and browse for yourself.  We will offer a 15% discount for paid up members, and also a discount for large orders.
If you have an organizational mind, we could use some help in keeping this section organized, and our database as current as possible.  Books get moved around, and they are not always where they should be, so frequent organization would be helpful.
Still under construction - Door is always locked
The front entrance, on Market Street, is still under construction.  That means you will have to use the back door, which is on 56th Street NW.  Because of ongoing security issues, the building is now always locked.
If we are open, our sandwich board sign will be out on the sidewalk.
You can call the library at 206-329-1794 to get the code to enter the builidng.  That phone number is on the sign on the glass door in the back.
Our library is two flights down.  If there is no one else in the library, I can take you back up to the sidewalk, using the scarey, 100-year-old freight elevator, if climbing two flights of stairs is daunting.
The landlord's latest proclamation is that the front door will be open for use on Oct 5.  That is obviously not true,  Maybe by January?
Internet is down
During the construction, our internet has been turned off, so we cannot process credit cards until they reconnect our cable, so you will have to bring cash to purchase books or a subscription.  Occassionally, we have a volunteer with a T-Mobile phone that can propvide a hot spot, but it's best not to rely upon that.
Email will be delayed - I will have to handle it off site.  But at least it will work, and you can still reach us.
We may be moving
Our lease is up at the end of February.  The landlord is raising the rent significantly.  The main reason we have been putting up with all this inconvenience is because the rent here is quite a bit lower than anywhere between Everett and Federal Way.
However, with the huge rent increase that the landlord wants in the new lease, we are looking for another location.  We are trying to limit our rent to $1100/month, but that may have to slide, if we don't find anything in that price range.
If you have some good leads, be sure to let us know.  We are not necessarily committed to Seattle, but obviously, because of our membership base, that is our preferred location.
We have the option of staying on a month-to-month basis, but at a rate even higher than the new lease rate.
We may decide to put the books in storage until we find another location.  Before we moved to Ballard, we had the books in storage for 4 months, until this space opened up.
New Mailing Address
Our mailbox is not secure, and it does not seem that our landlord intends to change that, so we've rented a post office box.  Mail sent to our street address may not get to us.  Instead, use this new mailing address:
Seattle Metaphysical Library
PO Box 30812
Seattle, WA 98113
Delivery Address
If you want to ship something to us using FedEx, or United Parcel, they will not deliver to a PO Box, but we do have a street address at the post office, so use this address if you are going to mail something to us.:

Hours
                                        Friday                     2 pm - 6 pm
                                        Sunday                   2 pm - 6 pm

We may also be available for appointments at other times.  Feel free to call at 206-329-1794.  A few days' notice will greatly increase the likelihood of having someone available.
Inter-Library Loans
We specialize in books the public library doesn't have, but there are many books the public library won't carry, that we don't have, either.
The Seattle Public Library offers something we don't - that is Inter-Library Loans.  I've taken advantage of that many times, to borrow a book the public library does not have.  I had one book come from a Glasgow Library!
It used to cost $5 to borrow an Inter-Library book, but that changed when they eliminated overdue fines for the COVID shutdown.
When I talked to the librarian at my local branch, he didn't know how long it would last, but I suspect the policy will change soon, so be sure to take advantage of it while you can..

We will be closed Christmas Day

First Friday - next is January 5 at 7:30 pm (or so)
Please schedule with Bill, as the building will be locked

RIDING THE WHEEL FROM AUTUMN,
LOOKING AHEAD TO WINTER WITH  THE SUIT OF PENTACLES

Mabon and Samhain, the fall holidays of the yearly cycle, focused on the watery qualities of emotions and psychic energy.  Now, as the days grow shorter and darkness reigns, we transition to earth energy, bringing the strength and endurance to deal with the lack of warmth and clarity.  The suit of Pentacles is the Tarot symbol for this energy transition.
The Tarot classes still meet on Zoom,
Roughly two Sundays per month (dates determined by the schedules of the group members)
We’ll be looking at the turn inward, and we’ll talk about our shadow selves and how those hidden energies can be transformed into life-affirming possibilities through Tarot meditation on the shadow cards.

We meet from 1:30 PM Pacific Daylight time until about 3:30 PM
Part of the $10 per session fee is donated to the Library, our birthplace and inspriation.
This Tarot work is highly intuitive.
The individualistic approach means that one card may have a completely diffrent meaning for each person, and the same card may have a different meaning for any person at different points in their life.
For this reason, we wlcome new peole to join us any time, whether they have been practicing Tarot for 30 years, or have never picked up a Tarot deck before
Contact Kathy at kathytom@live.com for more information and for the Zoom link.

Booq Club and Gathering

Are you an experienced practitioner of the occult and are tired of winging it solo? Feeling like it's time to find community in places outside of the internet?
Ready to interact and meet other mages who want to discuss and practice magick together?

My name is Lucy Gutierrez, and I will be facilitating an after-hours group at The Seattle Metaphysical Library focusing on occult study and discussion called BOOQ Club.
In this group, practitioners can come in and discuss all things magick with like-minded individuals. Topics will be personal, theoretical and/or the probable.
Practitioners from all paths are welcome, as a variety of perspectives deepens all conversations.
Respectful baby witches and beginner practitioners of magick are welcome to join, but this group is intended for people who have already done the necessary shadow work, have experimented alone, and are ready to move up in their practice.
We meet in-person in the library; and as a result, space is limited to the first 8 respondents.
Details about contacting me for sign-up can be found on our website.

Zoom Book Club

Second Monday of the month, 7 pm (we can review the time at the first meeting)

Where and when did hierarchies develop?
Archeology and anthropology looked at in a fresh way, these two researchers examine  societies around the world and across time to show that we have a wide variety of ways to organize our lives, and that we are not necesarily bound by current structures.
email Margaret to get the zoom link.
