Update on vaccination requirements
The Campus Health Committee shared recommendations for vaccines in a message on Oct. 12. We strongly recommend all community members continue to receive variant-updated boosters for COVID and flu each year. As the late fall and winter respiratory viral season approaches and we transition to more indoor activities, the likelihood of COVID, flu and other viral infection increases. Find a flu shot or a COVID vaccine or booster, or read the FAQs on the Campus Health website.
Please complete the National College Health Assessment
Undergraduate students and students in the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences have the chance to make a serious impact on campus. The National College Health Assessment is crucial in helping the University make decisions to improve the health of students. Check your email now for an invitation to take the survey. Complete the survey by Oct. 9-30 for your chance to win prizes. All undergraduate students who complete the survey will receive 400 Link Loot points. Learn more.
Important undergraduate academic dates, lower division advising and major/minor advising
The last day for undergraduates to add second part-of-term classes is Tuesday, Oct. 18. Undergraduate students should make appointments with their advisor(s) for advising: The Lower Division advising period and the Major/Minor advising and registration period are both Oct. 17-28.
How to Be Perfect: An Evening with Michael Schur (Mose from The Office), Oct. 17
Michael Schur is the author of How to Be Perfect: The Correct Answer To Every Moral Question and creator of the NBC sitcom The Good Place. He has also worked on shows like The Office (where he had a recurring part as Dwight Schrute’s cousin Mose) and created or co-created Parks and Recreation, Brooklyn 99, and more. He’ll be joining us on Monday, Oct. 17 at 7:30 p.m. in Brendle Recital Hall, Scales Fine Arts Center for a discussion about character, ethics, and television shows. Following the event, there will be a book signing. Copies of How To Be Perfect will be on sale at the event and at the University Bookstore.
Secrest Artists Series: Mingus Big Band, Oct. 20
The Mingus Big Band celebrates the 100th anniversary of the birth of composer/bassist Charles Mingus, one of the most important composers and performers in the history of jazz. This 14-piece band keeps the legacy of Mingus’ music alive and has been nominated for six Grammy awards. The event is on Oct. 20 at 7:30 p.m. in Wait Chapel. Student tickets are free with WFU ID and can be reserved online.
Need a place to study? Visit Wake Study Spaces
As we wrap up midterms and look to the second half of the semester, we want to remind that undergraduate students looking for a place to study can use the Wake Study Space website to see reservable spaces as well as common areas in which you can study.
Student Health Service resources over Fall Break
Our campus and surrounding area continues to experience a high volume of non-COVID respiratory illness. Typical symptoms are nasal congestion and drainage, sneezing, sore throat, cough, low-grade fever (< 100 F), headache, and fatigue. Because these illnesses are caused by viruses, antibiotics are not helpful for treatment and symptoms typically will go away on their own after 7-10 days. The Student Health Service clinic will be closed for Fall Break, but with an on-call nurse available 24/7 to assist with healthcare concerns. Additional information, including a list of off-campus healthcare providers, is available on our website.
ICYMI (In Case You Missed It):
Fall Break hours of operation — Fall Break runs today through Sunday (Oct. 13-16). During this time, many on-campus resources will shift their hours of operation. The dining schedule can be viewed here, and additional campus resources can be found here. Note that for counseling, 24/7 support is available through TimelyCare. In addition to a 24/7 nurse on-call line, the Student Health Service also has a list of off-campus healthcare providers.
Voting information — Starting Thursday, Oct. 20, One-Stop Early Voting begins in North Carolina and continues daily until Saturday, Nov. 5 at 3 p.m. ET. During this time, you can register and vote, all at once at any early voting location in Forsyth County — the closest of which is Winston-Salem First Assembly (just off campus across from Deacon Place). See this website for everything you need to know about voting.
Last call to complete the Strategic Framework feedback form (closes Oct. 14) — We want to hear student voices in the Strategic Framework process! You can still complete the Strategic Framework Feedback Form, which will close after Friday, Oct. 14. Your feedback can help the University move into its third century prepared to fulfill its academic mission and live up to its Pro Humanitate motto.
