Beloved,
I've been thinking about many of you this week. Some of you experienced wonderful life moments: weddings, reconnecting with friends, enjoying an evening of art.
Others of you have had some difficult moments: the death of a loved one, difficult health news, dealing with the effects of inflation.
I, too, experienced an amazing blessing, last week, and also navigated a difficult decision. We all go through the ups and downs of life, and they often happen simultaneously. I'm so glad to be in relationship with a God who is with us at the mountaintops and in the lowest valleys. God's rod and staff comfort us. God prepares tables for us in the presence of naysayers. God anoints us with oil--our cups run over.
I don't know about you, but I find comfort in knowing that, surely, God's goodness and her mercy has and will continue to follow me all my life. It follows you, too. It follows us, Riverside. Therefore, let us continue to march on and be God's beloved community for each other and our neighbors. There's work to do and worship to participate in.

Friends! Black Panther 2 is coming out soon. This is an extra special film release as the cast and crew pay homage to the late Chadwick Boseman--the original Black Panther--who passed away in 2020.
So, I bought some tickets for us to see Black Panther 2 together!

This is my treat to you. The free tickets are first come, first serve. In return, I ask that you donate nonperishable protein items to our new food pantry. We are looking for canned tuna, sardines, bags and cans of beans, and other long-lasting protein items.

Winter Food Pantry & Store Coming Soon...

In addition to Safeway gift cards that the deacons have purchased to help address food needs in our community, we will be starting a once-a-month Winter Food Pantry in December!
There are many organizations addressing Thanksgiving food needs, and a few doing pantry work on a weekly basis. However, during the winter months, the requests increase; thus, we want to do our part to address these needs. We will be opening the doors of our church on 2nd Sundays during the months of December-March, offering our congregation and neighbors a chance to grab items from the pantry, and fellowship over a cup of hot cider or coffee.
And we need your help!
We will be sending out information in the coming weeks regarding the specific items we're requesting for this new endeavor, as well as ways to sign up to help. If you have questions or would like to help with the planning, execution, and marketing of this project, please email deaconchair@riversidedc.org or pastor@riversidedc.org. If you or someone you know is in need of immediate assistance, please reach out and we will do our best to meet the need or direct people to other services.
Rev. Mia and others are also brainstorming how we might be able to incorporate non-food items, such as thick socks, sweaters, coats, hats, and scarves.
Please continue to share your resources and donate to our Shepherd's Purse fund if you can so that we can prepare for winter requests.
