Mission and Vision
The teachers have been working collaboratively on writing our new Mission statement, discussing ideas and sharing our vision. Our aim was to encompass our IB, British and international values. I am very excited to share this new Mission with our community:

Mission
At Reigate Grammar School Vietnam we value community and connection; the relationships we have with one another are central to our happiness and success at School and beyond. Our mission is to care for and support each individual's potential to become well-rounded, life-long learners with a strong sense of purpose based on their core values.
We empower and inspire our pupils by providing a challenging and diverse curriculum inside and outside the classroom that enables them to develop skills as reflective, brave, caring and principled learners.
We encourage our internationally-minded children to be inquisitive, collaborative and innovative by providing an inclusive and supportive environment.
We prepare our Reigatians to use their unique talents and abilities to make this world a better place by providing opportunities to give back to our community.
We felt our original Vision statement was a true reflection of our purpose as a school and left it unchanged:

Vision
Reigate Grammar School Vietnam aspires to nurture, empower and connect students with their local and global communities, to become international citizens who are active, compassionate and lifelong learners.

Please do email me if there is anything at all that I can help you with.

With my very best wishes.
Yours sincerely,

Arabella Crook
Education Director

Prep News
Year 6 Assembly
This past Wednesday, the Year 6 students shared an interactive assembly of their learning thus far. According to their own interests, students split into groups and planned a presentation and activity that they then performed in a round robin style viewing. Groups presented a role play of a poem from their novel study, Inside Out and Back Again; basketball drills; how societal decisions take place within a democracy; negative numbers and temperature; symbols and the process creating them; and symbolism within different aspects of our lives. Spectators even got involved by testing out their basketball drills, voting, participating in quizzes, and creating symbols! The Prep students and parents who attended enjoyed the performances.

Secondary News
After much preparation the Year 9 and 10 assemblies will start to be delivered this week. Good luck to Year 10 presenting on Friday, we look forward to seeing your risk taking in action.

After the cancellation of the Secondary sports day, the Year 11 students made the most of their PSHE lesson working in their houses, building relationships with other students and showing great support for their peers. Students completed a house tug of war competition to earn points for their house.  After a tough competition the students still managed to take the victory against their teachers.
Y9 Field Trip - Vietnamese Women's Museum
All of Year 9 grabbed an early lunch on Tuesday and headed off to the Vietnamese Women's Museum in Hanoi. The purpose of the expedition was to study the collection of fantastic propaganda posters at the museum. The museum offers an excellent look into Vietnamese women's history and gives the students a chance to explore the culture and customs. So, with the help and guidance from Mr Ed, Ms Ludwine & Ms Sarah, Year 9 returned to RGSV with tales of how powerful Vietnamese women are.
DP & University Counselling Parent Coffee Morning
Parents of Year 11 - Year 13 students were invited to a Coffee morning on Wednesday, 12th October, where Ms. Gita, our Diploma Programme Coordinator and Mr. Aaron, our University Counsellor explained how they work together to help students reach their university goals.

Understanding the importance of university applications, Ms. Gita and Mr. Aaron answered parents' questions and inquiries. They also talked about how parents can support their child's education and university applications, how universities evaluate and value the IB programme, and how RGSV support the Secondary students as they complete the Diploma Programme and their choices for university. Parents were given a clear vision of how they and the School can work together to help their child to get ready for the next step of their educational journey.
Canada University Fair
On Friday, RGS Vietnam welcomed representatives from Canadian universities, who enthusiastically introduced and discussed with secondary students about their diverse university programmes.

RGSV PANTHER SPORTS

This week was a busy week for our JV and Varsity Volleyball teams. On Monday the Varsity girls and both JV teams travelled to UNIS. JV girls played first and fought hard, chasing everything and never giving up on the point. They played well through both sets,  but unfortunately came up against a strong team eventually losing 16 -25, 18 -25.

The Varsity girls were up second and had a slow start going down 8 - 25 in the first set. The second set saw them improve, the team lifted and attempted some new tactics for the first team in a game. They played well going point for point until eventually, UNIS won 20 - 25.

The boys went through two tough sets against the strongest opponent they had ever met. The level of volleyball was high, but they could still hit the ball to the opponent's halfcourt and have some beautiful offence plays. Well done boys. Score 18-25, 11-25.

Tuesday and the varsity teams were travelling again, this time to St Paul's American School. The boys have been actively practising for the past week and confidently entered the game. We saw beautiful ball coordination and good attacks by both teams, making the atmosphere tense and offering the audience a good show. The opponent proved to be also really competitive, they always had a response and stayed close in the score. However, our Panthers dominated and WON BOTH SETS: 25-22, 26-24.

The Varsity girls had the second of their Back to back games for this week. We went in with a positive attitude from their achievements from the night before. The first set saw a lot of long rallies and close points, but nothing seemed to fall the right us. Even though the score was 11 - 25, the game was a lot closer than it shows. The second set was much of the same, long rallies and points just not falling the wrong way. We continued to play with our positions and found out a few new aspects of our game.

Finally, on Thursday, we were at home with the JV teams playing against St Pauls. The girls played well, showing that they were able to continue with our game plan for the year. They attempted to add in some of the skills we had been training and showed some real improvement again. St pauls how ever were just too strong and won the match 12 -25, 22-25. The girls continued to show some real fight.

The Boy's game saw them start a little slow, but as they got into the game the boys start to find their form. Once again aspects that were practised were put into a game situation. The boys were always in the game, but just couldn't finish the sets, eventually losing 14-25, 24-26.
