Updated advice for people who have
COVID-19

From today, you do not have to isolate if you have COVID-19, but you should stay home if you are sick. There are important things you can do protect our community.

If you have COVID-19, you should:
  • stay home until you are well
  • wear a mask in indoor public places or on public transport if you must leave your home
  • tell your workplace and talk about when you can return to work. If you work in health, disability or aged care you may need to stay away from work for longer to protect other staff, patients, residents and clients.
  • avoid large gatherings and crowded indoor places
  • not visit a hospital, aged care or disability care facility for at least 7 days.

COVID-19 health support

If you have COVID-19 and need health support, call your local health service, doctor, or the National Coronavirus Helpline on 1800 020 080.
You may also be eligible for special COVID-19 medicines (antivirals) if you are:
  • 70 years or older
  • 18 years or older and severely immunocompromised
  • Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander, 30 years or older with two additional risk factors.
  • 50 years or older with two additional risk factors
Find out if you are eligible and when is the best time to take them on the SA Health website, or call your trusted healthcare service.
If you are very sick and have chest pain or difficulty breathing, call Triple Zero (000) and tell them you have COVID-19.

Updated advice for close contacts

If you have had close contact with someone who has COVID-19, you have a higher risk of getting COVID-19.

There are important things you can do to protect other people:
  • Get tested if you get sick and stay at home until you feel better.
  • Use rapid antigen tests if you think you have COVID-19.
  • Don’t visit people in a hospital, aged care or disability care facility. If you have to visit, do a rapid antigen test before you go.
  • Wear a mask when indoors and on public transport.
Follow this advice for at least 7 days to protect our community.

COVID-19 testing

If you have COVID-19 symptoms, you should get a COVID-19 test. Stay at home until you are feeling better.

Getting tested is important if you are eligible for lifesaving COVID-19 oral antiviral treatments. You will need a positive result to get access to antiviral medicine.

If your RAT test is negative and you are still experiencing symptoms, please access PCR testing if available in your area.

You can get a COVID-19 PCR test at SA Health testing sites.

If you have a positive RAT test, you must report your result using the online form on the SA Health website if you test positive using a rapid antigen test. If no one can help you complete the form, contact the SA COVID-19 Information Line on 1800 253 787 between 9am to 4pm, Monday to Friday.

Mask and vaccination requirements

Some hospitals, GPs and other health care sites may still need you to wear a mask.

COVID-19 vaccination requirements still apply for people working in disability care and residential aged care facilities, ambulance services and in public and private hospitals.
