Loreto Highlights Update - 14th October 2022
Paediatric First Aid
After school this week several members of staff attended training to become Paediatric First Aiders.  Training continues next week before they sit their exam.  Good luck to you all!
Spelling
Class 2P have been practising their spellings and letter formation through some fun interactive activities.
Traffic Free Tuesday
There are days when life gets in the way and things do not go according to plan. Our Traffic Free Tuesday champions continue regardless, with the knowledge that their message is still being broadcast. Well done to our South District children.
Taking The Lead
Some of our Year 6 boys met with Mrs. Napoli to present an idea for a school event. They had a well- presented document which set out what they intend to do. A very exciting proposal indeed! Make sure to read the newsletter next week to find out more.
Sports Club
The Year 3 – 5 lunchtime clubs this week, focussed on ‘Running & Races’. The Year 3 pupils pictured below really enjoyed their running club.

Library Awards
Our Mr Reader awards scheme is well underway, and pupils have been reading their library books at home and during lunchtimes.  Well done to the following pupils who have had their certificates presented by our Library Prefects.
Perfect Shot!
Lower Primary have been learning and perfecting the key games skills of bouncing a ball and scoring, through the topic of basketball. Here are some photos of Year 1 showcasing their skills.
Maths
This week class 1B have started to explore addition.  The pupils have used the whole-part method with a variety of practical resources, while using the correct mathematical vocabulary.  They have worked so hard with excellent outcomes!
History Quiz
Class 2M had fun in our history quiz this week. The pupils had to guess some different artefacts from the Great Fire of London.
Just One Tree
As part of the Just one Tree initiative, Year 3 learnt about photosynthesis, the benefits of trees to ourselves and our wildlife, and the vital role trees play in mitigating climate change.
The pupils learnt about the importance of trees and how each part of a tree has a different name, just like we have names for all the different parts of our bodies.
Pupils and staff have worn a 'touch of green' today to support Just One Tree day, joining in with over 200,000 children across the world.  The aim is to raise awareness of the need to restore our planet.  Every pound raised will fund reforestation organisations around the globe focusing on areas severely affected by mass deforestation.  Our Environment Prefect Guilia, with members of the Loreto Schools Sustainability Committee planted an Avocado tree in the School garden, thank you to the Weir family for donating the tree.
Gold Book
Well done to pupils in Lower Primary and Foundation Stage who were presented with their Gold Award certificates and gold pencils
HE Governor’s Christmas Card Competition
Get creative this season with this Christmas Card Competition. Open to all children in Year 3- 6 with fantastic prizes to be won. All entries should be submitted to your class teacher no later than Thursday 3rd November.  Read the full letter here.
Harvest Festival
Our Nursery 1 pupils started their Harvest activities yesterday as we will be holding our Harvest Festival on Friday 14th October.
For this activity, the pupils painted the wreath and then stuck on the various fruits and vegetables. This activity develops their hand-eye coordination, fine motor skills and communication skills. It was also loved by all!
Baking Bread
This week class FS2W read the story of The Little Red Hen who sadly did not get any help from her friends when baking some bread.   Luckily our classes were very happy to help us bake some bread!
They all enjoyed some fresh bread rolls for tea.  Well done!
