COVID-19 Updates for Oral Health Providers
CDC has released the following COVID-19 updates which pertain to dental providers:
  1. Infection Control: Severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) | CDC
  2. Interim Guidance for Managing Healthcare Personnel with SARS-CoV-2 Infection or Exposure to SARS-CoV-2 | CDC
  3. Strategies to Mitigate Healthcare Personnel Staffing Shortages | CDC
Note that recommendations around use of masks in healthcare facilities are guided by community transmission rates for COVID-19.  That data, pertinent to healthcare facilities, is available here.

Monkeypox Information for Oral Health Providers
Did you know in many cases, when someone is infected with monkeypox, the first lesions to develop are on the tongue and in the mouth? Learn more about the monkeypox virus infection, how it spreads, monkeypox rash characteristics, and considerations for oral health providers from this Monkeypox Fact Sheet for Oral Health Providers.

Medicaid Dental Reimbursement Rates Increased
Fees for the Rhode Island Adult Medicaid Dental fee-for-service program have increased for the first time in 30 years. Review the updated fees for individual dental codes using the Interactive Fee for Service Fee Schedule. Anyone interested in becoming a Medicaid dental provider can follow the steps on the Provider Enrollment page.

We Need Feedback from Dental Hygienists
RIDOH wants to know how dental hygienists and public health hygienists are using their license and if there is interest in expanding your current work to reach vulnerable Rhode Islanders. We are asking all dental hygienists to complete a 10-minute survey.

Public Hearing Scheduled for Dental Regulations
A public hearing regarding an amendment to the dental regulations is scheduled for October 21 at 1 p.m. in the RIDOH Auditorium. Written or oral comments can be submitted until November 2, 2022, and can be emailed to Cheryl.leclair@health.ri.gov. Anyone who submitted comments during the previous comment period does not need to re-submit them during this comment period. All previous comments were accepted. To read a summary of the proposed amendments, visit the Secretary of State’s website.
