October 2022 Business & Professional Women
of Nevada County Newsletter
Join us as we meet to present our program,
“American Nation: One or Many?”
Fasten your seat belts for an American history presentation unlike any other you've heard. Susan Rogers will boil down a six-hour Sierra College class into a one-hour overview of the book, "American Nations: A History of the 11 Rival Regional Cultures of North America."
Learn why author and historian Colin Woodard, in his fascinating book, argues that the reason Americans have never been able to resolve fundamental issues -- is this a Christian nation or secular? Which political party defends American values and which undermines them? and more -- is because there isn’t, and never has been, one America but several. Woodard details the histories of eleven distinct regional cultures that evolved from the vastly different groups of immigrants who took control of the lands that became the United States.
Susan Rogers teaches online (Zoom) classes on genealogy, media culture, and history for the Sierra College OLLI (adult ed) program. A 22-year Nevada County resident, she is semi-retired from a 40-year career in marketing communications and public relations and is an active volunteer in local wildfire preparedness organizations.
