The Collect for The Eighteenth Sunday after Trinity

Almighty and everlasting God,
increase in us your gift of faith
that, forsaking what lies behind
and reaching out to that which is before,
we may run the way of your commandments
and win the crown of everlasting joy;
through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord,
who is alive and reigns with you,
in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
one God, now and for ever.
Amen.

Notices

President and Preacher at our Sung Eucharist this week

We welcome Rev. Mark Griffin, Area Dean of Canterbury and Rector of St Martin and St Paul's parish who is leading our worship this Sunday morning having swapped with Kevin for the morning; Kevin will be preaching at St Paul's Eucharist.
Harvest Festival

Thank you to everyone who made such generous donations to our Harvest Festival earlier in the month.
Developing our Church Community

The Church of England has recently developed a tool to enable us in developing our Church community and I would like to invite as many people as possible to take part in the survey questionnaire that has been designed for this purpose.  The link to the online survey (which is St Stephen’s specific) is: https://www.achurchnearyou.com/church/2831/surveys/church-development-tool/survey/

Alternatively, there will be some paper versions of the survey available at Church and a poster with a QR code for those who are tech savvy.  Please do help us with this survey as it will help us to plan our future activities and programmes.

Many thanks,
Kevin

Walsingham Pilgrimage

We are exploring the possibility of a group pilgrimage to the Shrine of Our Lady of Walsingham during the week 10 - 14 April 2023.  The idea would be to take a party of up to 20 people for one or two nights, and I will book rooms when I have been informed about availability.  If you would like to come, please let Kevin know.  Bed and Breakfast rates are £52 per person per day; Half Board is £64 per person; and Full Board is £76.  When you register your interest, could I ask whether you would prefer one or two nights, and whether you would like B & B, HB or FB.
Many thanks.
Kevin
Appeal for help by Connecting Canterbury, September 2022.

We are facing unprecedented calls for help by people and families in crisis, and to the end of August we made 348 small, discreet, emergency grants, compared to 190 in the whole of 2021. In 10 days since a further 39 people have been helped. In addition, many more grants have been made for white goods and debt support, following support from Acts 435 and other trusts/charities.

We continue to meet at our 2 principal hubs, on Thursday at Lily’s Café, Canterbury Baptist Church, 11 to 1pm, and on Friday at All Saint’s Church, Military Road, 10 to noon. Free food is available at both hubs. A major initiative has been the weekly visit by Jeremy Cross of Citizen’s Advice, and his help and guidance has been transformational. If you know of people with debt and money issues, please encourage them to come and meet Jeremy.

We are so grateful for the prayerful support of so many Christians, and if you would like to explore helping us, please come and visit at one of the hubs.

How you can help

To enable us to continue helping people in crisis, we appeal to those best able, to gift us some or all of your energy/fuel allowances. If you could please pay by bank transfer to our parent charitable body, Together Kent, sort code 40 52 40, account no. 00029014 at CAF Bank, quoting reference Connecting Canterbury. Gift aiding is also possible. Cheques payable to Together Kent, should be sent to Diocesan House, Lady Wootton’s Green, Canterbury CT1 1NG, with the reference Connecting Canterbury.
Food Bank

St Stephen's has arranged for the Food Bank to collect food from our yellow dustbin in the church porch, so please support this essential service for those who cannot afford to feed their families.

The Canterbury Food Bank website has details of items that they are currently running low on: https://canterburyfoodbank.org
The Canterbury Society is a civic association registered with the Charities Commission. All its work is done by unpaid volunteers. This includes managing open green spaces in the community, litter picks, assessing planning applications and building designs through to protecting the City’s heritage. There are many members from St Stephens and everyone is invited to join at www.canterburysociety.org.uk.
