Congratulations to Our First Firewise Community

Firewise Steering Committee: Michael Grady, Martha Bowden, Anna Smith, Dru Anderson (left to right)

The Los Altos Hills Saddle Mountain Neighborhood has recently achieved the status of becoming a nationally recognized Firewise USA® Community!

Steering Committee members worked together with support from Santa Clara County Firesafe Council and the District to achieve this milestone.

Firewise teaches communities how to adapt to living in wildfire and encourages neighbors to work together and take action to prevent losses. If you would like to learn more please check out the video and articles linked below.

The group also reviewed the changing climate of homeowners insurance. The group talked about how Firewise USA® recognition can be used as a tool to retain and reduce insurance premiums. Additional topics were discussed such as preparing for evacuations by having a Go Bag, registering for emergency alerts, and more.

Invite us to your next neighborhood meeting to learn ways to make your community safer!

October was Earthquake Awareness Month

Do you have a preparedness plan in place?

Did you feel the 5.1 earthquake that took place on October 25th at 11:42 am? It is a great time to think about what your plan is WHEN the next big earthquake strikes!

3 steps to being earthquake prepared:

  1. Register for early emergency alerts. How will you receive emergency alerts and warnings?

  2. Pack a “Go Bag” for every family member including pets. Click Here

  3. Have an evacuation plan: Where are you and your family meeting after a earthquake event? More Information Here

Arastradero Evacuation Route and Road Hardening Project

The Arastradero Road Project is scheduled for late November. The District will remove dead, dying, and diseased vegetation from the roadside. It will increase effectiveness of evacuation routes during a wildfire, improved visibility and travel safety, along with reducing the risk of roadside ignition.

The 4-mile treatment begins at the intersection of Page Mill Road and Arastradero, ending at the intersection of Arastradero and Fremont Road.

Important: If you live along the proposed route you should have already received your information packet. If you have not received your packet please contact us at info@lahcfd.org. Your participation will increase the effectiveness of the project and improved community safety.
