Create - Dance - Move

Students will need their imaginations, creativity, and dancing feet as they jump into the concept - Create - Dance - Move.

The Big Idea is: Dance is a way to express ourselves, share and connect with others.

Students will begin by exploring practical dance knowledge by unpacking dance vocabulary and techniques. Students will learn about how people use dance as an art form to express themselves and tell stories.

Students dance learning will be celebrated by each class designing a dance to express themselves and present at our school's Summer Festival. 

Classes will then continue using the design process to create movement activities and games. Following the design process, working cooperatively with others, problem-solving and evaluating and reflecting on their creations will be meaningful learning experiences.

Students will explore instructional writing to produce clear instructions to share with others. Students will present their instructions using Google applications. Journal writing will be another focus area as students reflect on the design process and learning.  

Problem-solving rich mathematical tasks with a low floor but a high ceiling (activities that all students can access but that can be extended to high levels) will create interesting dinner conversations for our whanau this term. Make sure you ask your students about what they have been learning in math. Students will revisit some measurement learning areas, including time.

Instructional Te Reo Maori dance vocabulary will be integrated into all our learning areas.
