“A house without books is like a room without windows.”
- Horace Mann
Greetings Laurel Hall Families!
What a week. What a day. What a wonderful Homecoming! This week ended as brilliantly as it began. Thank you to all who attended, and all who worked tirelessly to make Homecoming 2022 a huge success. It will never cease to amaze me how beautifully, and repeatedly we come together as a school community.
So, how did the week begin in a special way? Well, because early Monday morning, Mrs. Hitchcock, Mrs. McSherry, and I were treated to the profound words of six fabulous students named Daniel, Henry, Hudson, Justin, Sage, and Sophia. They visited our offices and shared with us a lesson they had worked on in class. First, they taught us the definition of a simile – “a type of figurative language that describes something to comparing it to something else using the words like or as.”
Then, we were treated to their words:
The rain falls on the ocean like birds crying on a sunset.
The wind is like a whisper from the earth.
The earth is like an island in space.
The stars shine like diamonds in the sky.
The wind is like the earth breathing.
Your painting is as pretty as a morning sunrise.
All the while they shared, I thought to myself, “Indeed, Laurel Hall students are like songs sung in perfect harmony!”
Life is grand.
Have a wonderful weekend!
- Mr. G
