A message from John Talley
The Vision of First Baptist Church is to Pursue Christ First in Life, Love and Actions. The vision of a church is what our mission will look like when it is lived out in our community. Our mission is simply to make disciples. What does that look like, and how do we do it?
Pursuing Christ First in Life - For the Believer, Christ dwells in us; therefore, He is with us everywhere we go and in everything we do. Have you ever watched a movie and then re-watched it with your parents, or children? Isn’t it amazing how the morally questionable scenes REALLY stick out when they are present? What if we lived life while practicing Jesus’ presence every day?
Pursuing Christ First in Love – Jesus said the greatest two commands were to love God and love others. Loving God shows up in every action, every thought, and even in the way we manage the resources He’s blessed us with. Loving others is really all about ministry and evangelism – if we love other Believers, we take the time to minister to them. Loving someone who doesn’t follow Christ means stepping out of our comfort zone and sharing Christ with them through our words and actions. It requires being intentional.
Pursuing Christ First in Actions – While our actions are addressed above, some of our most significant actions are really our reactions. I can plan to be intentional in the action depending on who I am around, but reactions come from my heart and spirit in the “heat of the moment.” Scripture reminds us that “out of the heart the mouth speaks.”
How are you doing at living out the mission and vision of your church?
Speaking of vison, the Astros’ is simple: win! And they are! Join us in wearing your Astros gear/colors (blue and orange) this Sunday?
Let’s look for ways to celebrate when we live out our vison, too!
