The Duke University School of Nursing is taking bold steps in new directions. I recently had an opportunity to share our new direction during my 2022 State of the School Address. This was an opportunity to celebrate the School’s accomplishments over the last year and publically announce our new mission and launch the implementation of our 2022-2027 Strategic Plan.
Our new mission and strategic plan highlight our recommitment to advancing health equity and embracing social justice in our academic, clinical, and research programs.
After a thoughtful and deliberative community process, the Duke University School of Nursing is excited and proud to share our new mission.
“We, at the Duke University School of Nursing, advance health equity and social justice by preparing nurse leaders and innovators with a commitment to improving health outcomes through transformative excellence in education, clinical practice, and nursing science.”
The bold new focus of our mission is reflected in our 2022-2027 Strategic Plan through the priorities and initiatives of our five focus areas:
• Nursing Practice
• Nursing Science
• Nursing Education
• Expanding Resources & Reach
• Community Diversity, Equity, Inclusion & Belonging
We are extremely excited and hope that you will join us as we further advance health equity through nurse-led models of care focused on mitigating the harmful social determinants of health, reducing morbidity and mortality, and addressing inequity in health resource allocation.
I invite you to take a moment to view the recording of the State of the School Address below and view the accompanying presentation at nursing.duke.edu.
Thank you for your time and support.
Sincerely,
