October 2022

Rice is the primary food staple of more than half the world’s population.

And with so much diversity in Canada’s population (and in the food we enjoy!), it’s no surprise our rice consumption has been steadily increasing over the past 50 years.

Foodservice Partnerships with USA Rice

USA Rice is thrilled to be working with influential Canadian chefs and foodservice professionals to create inspiring recipes to share with consumers in restaurants and online. A show-stopping menu item has launched with award-winning chef Adam Soliman, owner of Aragoz (Egyptian ghost kitchen and catering business), that features new flavour profiles using local ingredients intermingled with ethnic flavours and infusions. The new dish, called “Seafood & U.S. Rice Tajine,” is an Egyptian-style stew that features grilled calamari and tiger prawns blended with aromatic seasonings and spices. Fragrant U.S.-grown short-grain rice is cooked with seasoned fish and caramelized onions for an extra comforting feel. The dish is currently featured as the “Chef’s Special” on Aragoz’s website, and is also being promoted with vibrant “Think Rice” stickers on to-go containers that promote the use of U.S. rice.

As the 2022 campaign progresses in Canada, USA Rice looks forward to sharing news of additional foodservice promotions in the future, as well as industry and consumer response to new menu items promoting U.S.-grown rice at local restaurants.

An Elevated Burger – With U.S. Rice!
What is Canada’s most wanted menu in mid-2022?

Within the foodservice industry, burgers remain a staple on menus and the top entrée item, growing in relative popularity and absolute servings since the start of the pandemic. Thanks to their broad appeal in Canada, the trusty burger has provided foodservice operators an opportunity to utilize new techniques and flavour innovation in the creation of modern and elevated dishes.

To create a fun and nutritious twist on the classic burger experience, USA Rice Canada partnered with award-winning chef Keith Pears, the Executive Chef at W Toronto (a new luxury hotel), to adapt the classic dish. His personal creation, titled “Spicy Tuna Poke Rice Sandwich,” features perfectly crispy rice cakes in place of the traditional burger bun. Using rice cakes as the bun can make any burger gluten-free!

The partnership includes an Instagram Reel of his step-by-step process to create the recipe and a call-out to visit USA Rice’s website for the full recipe. The dish has since been shared on USA Rice’s website for consumers to reference when attempting to replicate at home. The dish garnered 226,800 organic impressions, 204,700 paid impressions, and over 550 engagements to date on social media, which includes positive sentiment from other Canadian chefs.

Horchata Crème Brulee – Made with U.S. Rice!

Other partnerships with reputable chefs have since been established to create modern adaptations of classic meals, such as Chef Erica Karbelnik’s Horchata Crème Brûlée. Inspired by her travels through Mexico, the dessert is a spiced spin on traditional crème brulee, which pays homage to her Mexican roots.
