Alumni Career Conversation Business and Finance — Tips and Advice from David Groman ‘14 & Sean Fisher ‘17:
  • There are many opportunities to work in offices abroad at big banks and multinational corporations. Also, International graduate programs can help you network abroad.
  • When it comes to working in business and finance, a lot of the hard skills are learned on the job. You do not need to have a business/finance major or minor to pursue a career in this field.
  • Work experience before applying for an MBA can be helpful. Otherwise, if you know what master's degree you want to pursue, go for it and apply during your senior year.
  • When marketing your IS degree, employers tend to like the language skills. This is a unique aspect of the IS degree to focus on.
  • It is important to start networking and making connections now. Handshake is an excellent resource for learning more about career opportunities from BC alumni.
  • Stay updated on current events in the business world. Consistently reading publications like Financial Times or the Wall Street Journal can help keep you up to speed.
Visit our International Studies Program YouTube library to watch the full recording from this recent event and check out other Alumni Career Conversations.
