Looking Ahead Towards Advent
|
|
|
Advent will begin on Sunday, November 27, and in the coming weeks we’ll be sharing with you all that we have planned. But, there a few things we have to start preparing for a bit earlier. As part of our Advent theme this year, "From Generation to Generation," there is a strong focus on multi-generational gatherings and liturgies, which we’re really excited about. In particular for our advent candle lighting each week we will need a child, teenager, adult, and older adult to help lead the liturgy. If you fall into one of those categories and would like to participate in the liturgy during Advent, please contact Pastor Meghan so we can prepare.

Pic of the Week
A look into the life of the church
Our Angel Trees went up this Sunday! This year our church is fulfilling 50 Angel Tree requests through Outreach. As of Sunday we have 21 cards left. Each angel tree will list a child or senior in our community, and the store from which they would like a gift card (gift cards are a huge hit with Outreach’s clients and allow parents to have the joy of purchasing gifts for their children). On some cards, particularly for children, you may also notice toy requests. Toys purchased this year will go into a general collection for parents to choose from. Your generosity will help children, families, and seniors in our community experience some joy this Christmas. Angel Tree cards will be due back on Sunday, November 28. Please take a card from our tree and make sure to fill out the information on the sign-up sheet. If you can't get to the church, but would like an Angel Tree card, please email Pastor Meghan, and we will assign you how ever many your request.

Notes From The Governing Board
September 2022
Here are the highlights from the October 2022 governing board meeting:
- A reminder about ministry team and committee structure:
- Teams fall on the ministry side and report to staff. Anyone can join any team by signing up online. There is a link in the weekly eblasts. Requests from team members should first be approved by the team and then sent to a staff member.
- Committees fall under the governance side and report to the governing board. People are recruited for them based on need and skill set. If you are interested in being on a committee, please send a request to the board.
- Christmas falls on Sunday this year. Meghan will have a short service, earlier than the usual worship time, to accommodate family Christmas plans with folks may have. We are also thinking about having a Christmas brunch after the service for those who are alone. Stay tuned for more information!
- Jackie Weedon, Governing Board Clerk

Notes From The Church Dog
Because somebody has to run this church...
|
|
In our faith tradition, we typically don't like to use the word "evangelism", but simply put it's sharing the good news by our actions, and sometimes words. It's doing justice, loving our neighbor, practicing true generosity, and showing grace. It's not about conversion, but about loving in the way Jesus modeled for us. This past Saturday our Justice team did just that at Upstate Pride in Spartanburg, and I had so much fun hanging out with them (even though I got soaking wet in the rain). I loved greeting people, seeing what they wrote on our canvases that asked "What does Pride mean to you?", and telling the story of our church. It means so much to folx to know that there are churches that recognize and welcome all of God's beautifully created children. It was also such a joy to learn from my human that some of the folks I met on Saturday came to church on Sunday. Thank you to our Justice team for sharing the Good News!
Wishing you all the toys and pets,
Wally
