LIFRC Weekly Community Update

November 8th, 2022

Happy Tuesday!

It's election day and that reminds us of the power of voting and how very important your voice and ideas are.

It's been 2 months now since we changed the format of our Community Updates and while many of you have reached out personally to share feedback, we'd love to hear from everyone

To make it quick and easy, we've prepared a short, anonymous survey that will shape the way we continue to move forward with our external communication.

We appreciate your feedback!

Weekly Spotlight
Across countries and cultures, food has a way of bringing people together.

It’s also one of the three most basic human needs.

Unfortunately, not all food systems are created equal.

In fact, today, as many as 40 million U.S. Americans lack affordable access to healthy, nurturing food.

Nearly 573 households on Lopez do not have enough monthly income to cover basic needs including food.  But here on our amazing little island, we are working hard to be sure everyone has enough nutritious food to eat.

People like you make a difference by sharing the harvest-time bounty. And it’s this generosity that knits the very safety net of our island’s food security.

As winter approaches, and we ease into the holiday season, even the strongest system feels the stress and strain of higher expenses and fewer fresh, local fruits and vegetables being available.

So the Lopez Island Food Share provides food for Harvest dinners and Thanksgiving gatherings, inviting households to shop for food, including stuffing rolls, vegetables (as locally sourced as possible) and homemade pies.

Yes, pies!

Pies are the centerpiece of any Harvest Dinner & Thanksgiving meal. They bring a sweetness that melts away life’s challenges while filling up our mouths with yumminess and our hearts with gratitude.

This is your opportunity to contribute to the Lopez Island Food Share!

Bake and donate a pie to share with a fellow Lopezian.

All pie donations will be received Tuesday November 22nd from 9:00-11:30 AM at the LIFRC in the Conference room of the McCabe building.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact Pedro or Contessa. Or call The LIFRC at 360-468-4117
