It is not happiness that makes us grateful. It is gratefulness that makes us happy.

A Message from JPIC Coordinator Sr. Bea Hernandez, OSF

I received an email from Earth Ministry, an organization the our JPIC Office supports each year. I want to share with you the information about how the Bishops of WA state are joining with others to call state and national leaders to take action on protecting the sacred Salmon of the Pacific Northwest, an endangered species on which people and entire ecosystems depend. The links provided also tell more of the story about the sacred salmon, the Native American cultural links to the salmon in this part of the country, and the essential role that native peoples play in the development of strategies to protect and restore the salmon.

I hope you find the information interesting, enlightening and inspiring. This is an example of how coming together across cultural barriers can make creative solutions to problems more possible.
