Connecting with the World

As the body of Christ in the world, we are committed to cultivating sacred connections with God, one another, and the wider world.  This past Sunday, we reflected on the many ways our congregation connects with the community around us.  Greg Oreskovich offered a temple talk on his family's experiences doing ministry with St. John's (see Sunday Service Video below to watch).  Then, everyone had the opportunity to write memories of connecting with the community on colorful slips of paper, which were collected by the children and linked together into a paper chain.  Below you can find a selection of those memories.

Meaningful ways we have connected with the community over the years:
  • Family Promise has been a constant opportunity for me and my family and an occasional friend to meaningfully connect with those in our community.
  • Soup Kitchen – providing life-giving sustenance for those who are in need.
  • GoodFest provided an exciting and lovely way to connect with other St. John’s members and our community at large, partnering with businesses that share our values.  Loved it!
  • Traveling to Springfield to advocate for Clean Air Jobs Act.
  • Seeing off families traveling to see incarcerated mothers.
  • CROP Walk.
  • Habitat for Humanity.
  • Learning about justice vs. charity.
  • Rummage Sales and serving others with goods and financial help
  • Sandwich Ministry – Giving is always satisfying.
  • As a part of the Extended Ministries Fund Committee, I am able to champion St. John’s giving to local and world-wide ministries.
  • Holy Family School is an important group we support in its work with children in underserved communities.
Happy Birthday to those born 11/11-11/17

Generosity Sunday
This Sunday is Generosity Sunday, the day we bring our commitment cards to the altar and dedicate them to God for the sake of Christ’s ministry in the world.  Please refer to the letter you received in the mail this week, which includes a commitment card for you to complete and bring to worship this weekend.  If you are unable to join us in person this Sunday, please complete your card online or return it via postal mail.  We give thanks for the opportunity to share our gifts, and we celebrate the impact these gifts have on our lives and on our community through God’s grace and the ministry of St. John’s.
