IN-PERSON CONFERENCE

I Attended Gairdner Science Week!

I had the amazing opportunity to attend a leading biomedical conference — Gairdner Science Week — a few weeks ago in Toronto and had a great experience. I got to listen to talks from fantastic scientists, talk to attendees, and attend my first awards gala too!

To add to the amazing experience, I was Gairdner Foundation's High School Science Correspondent, meaning I got the chance to work on simplifying some of the science being shared at Science Week before, during, and after the event (more on that below).

I talk more about what I learned from the experience in a blog post on Gairdner's website that you can read below. Thanks so much to everyone at the Gairdner Foundation for making this possible!

Let's recap my experience at Gairdner Science Week together — video style! I take you along with me throughout the two days when I attended different events. I also share some of the interesting facts I learned.

There's even an exclusive interview with Dr. Anna Blakney about the importance of science communication that you won't want to miss.

Take a trip with me once more, this time a trip through time

Taking on the character of a stem cell named Stema, I talk about some of the most important events in the history of stem cell research. This was part of the work I did with the Gairdner Foundation prior to the event!

INTERVIEWS + VIDEO

Discussing Medulloblastoma Discoveries with Researchers 🧠

Medulloblastoma, a devastating cancerous child brain tumor, affected over 570 Canadian children between 1990 and 2009.

Recently, an international team of researchers has made critical discoveries that could make screening for and treating medulloblastoma much more effective in the future.

As part of my role as Director of Communications at Eye Hope Canada, a student-led organization raising awareness about childhood cancers, I sat down with some of the scientists leading this research to learn more.

Watch the 90-second informational video we made, including interviews with these amazing scientists, by clicking on the button below.

Freelance Writing, Research & the Holidays!

I'm super excited to say that I'm much closer to achieving both goals I mentioned in my last newsletter!

I'm currently working on my first official freelance writing piece on a very interesting topic you'll soon hear about.

As well, I've been in touch with a fantastic researcher and will hopefully start doing some research in their lab.

Other than that, I'm very much looking forward to the holiday season!

That brings me to the end of this newsletter.

Thanks so much for reading this edition of my newsletter! As always, reply to this email if you'd like to chat and have a great rest of your day.

Till next time,
Parmin
