November 2022 Second Newsletter

Autumn is a busy time! A transition time. Closing the cottage,
making those last visits in the nice weather, and raking leaves – which
were especially beautiful this year! After Remembrance Day we turn the
corner and gear up for Advent, Christmas and News Years. Usually, in
the Newsletter I try to send you some spiritual guidance, a word of
encouragement, or a heart-warming seasonal sentiment. This time I want
to keep you up to speed about what is happening at Camlachie Church.

November 6th - Remembrance Sunday. NB the clocks “fall back” 1
hour this weekend. 10:00 a.m. Shared worship at Camlachie United
Church with St. John’s-in-the-Wilderness Anglican Church. Welcome All!
Adjourn at 10:30 and walk to the Optimist Club. At 10:45 march to the
Cenotaph for the Community Remembrance Observances.

November 13th - The 60th Anniversary of The United Church Women.
Whoohoo and praise the Lord! The U.C.W. has been an amazing ministry
powerhouse! God has given us a lot to celebrate!

November 18th - 19th Synergy Concert. Always a good time and a great
show! Hurry! Tickets are going quickly! Check the “Announcements.”

November 20th - Communion Sunday. Don Burnard, will add his voice
to our worship. Come and see (hear) . . .

November 27th Can you believe it? --- The beginning of ADVENT! 28
days until Christmas. Don’t’ forget “The Angel Tree” and “Our Christmas
Families” . . .

December 6th Ukraine !

So, the days are beautiful but getting shorter. Much is happening in
the world and people have a lot of pent-up desire to do it. Finally, I hope
that you and yours are doing well, staying healthy, having a good time,
and flourishing.

I’ll close with a word of blessing: May you live long, fare well, and
prosper in every good endeavour. God bless and Godspeed!

Warmly,

+ Dave V.P.
This Sunday, November 6, we will be worshiping with St. John's In The Wilderness Anglican Church in our sanctuary and then at 10:30 we will adjourn and join the march to the cenotaph for the Community Remembrance Service.
Weather Cancellation Policy - 2022/2023
On some occasions in past winters, it has been necessary to cancel Sunday morning worship services because of severe weather conditions.  Should this be necessary this winter, please be aware of the following:
The Chair of the Unified Board, the Chair of the Worship Committee, and the Minister will make any required decision to cancel services.  If all are not available, then one person in consultation with any other member of the Unified Board may make the decision, hopefully by 8:00 a.m.
Notices will go out by email to those on the subscribed congregational list, a post will be posted on Facebook and our website. Phone calls will go out to key members of the subscribed list that do not have email.
If you do not get an email, see a post or receive a phone call (if you are not on the email list) please be advised that church will be proceeding as normal.  It is your responsibility to be safe and make the best decision for you whether to attend.
Don't forget to turn your clocks back overnight on Saturday!

What does Mission and Service do?

We share our resources with three goals in mind:

  • to help transform lives
  • to inspire meaning and purpose
  • to build a better world

How do you transform lives through Mission and Service?

To put it simply, we help.

Locally, we help people by supporting homeless shelters, food banks, community kitchens, and refugee programs. We help young people on campuses and through camping outreach. We help people who are sick or at the end of life by supporting addiction, mental health, and counselling services and hospice care.

Globally, we support people to access clean water, food, and medical care. We support skills training and economic development. We help with peace-making and sustainable agriculture efforts. We provide disaster relief and advocate for the rights of those who all too often don’t get a say, like children and migrant workers.

How does Mission and Service inspire people to live with meaning and purpose?

We support opportunities for people to grow spiritually in all kinds of ways.

Locally, we support theological schools and education/retreat centres. We support events that promote spiritual development and personal reflection. We support new and innovative ministries, as well as communities of faith that are remote or in need. Globally, we support church organizations that work with theological schools, and we support places that offer practical training in agriculture and health.

It’s a win-win. We trust that when people are in tune with their meaning and purpose, they will naturally want to help transform lives and make the world a better place for all.

What’s our approach?

It’s all about respect.

We work in partnership with people and organizations and never impose our solutions, ways of doing things, or belief systems. We aim for long-term solutions over quick fixes because we want to make a lasting difference. At this very moment, we are working alongside 72 partners in 21 countries around the world. We’ve built many of these relationships over decades. These vital partnerships allow us to maximize generosity in places that desperately need our help, and put donations to work quickly and effectively when disaster strikes almost anywhere in the world.

How can I give to Mission and Service?
