Big Lake Director Credited in
Banff International Film Festival Finalist Film

Big Lake director, Les Zollbrecht is credited in a film gaining international recognition at the Banff Centre Mountain Film & Book Festival this year! Les’s connection to the film and the story it tells dates back nearly two decades to when he began trekking in Nepal with a local leader named Jagat Lama, whose story is the central focus of the featured film Kumari: A Father’s Dream.

The Bruised Apple


When you see a bruised piece of fruit, what is your first reaction?
 
Several months ago, as I was volunteering at one of our local food banks, I picked up an apple that had a soft brown spot on it. I looked at it for a minute, sighed, and set the apple on a shelf instead of putting it in the food box I was packing. I thought, “Nobody wants to reach into their box and pull out a bruised apple. Let me give them something better.”
 
Mornings move fast at the food pantry, and it was several hours before I had finished my shift and was getting ready to go about my other duties for the day. As I walked through the now empty food storage room, I saw the bruised apple I had set on the shelf just hours before. As I looked at the soft, brown bruise on the apple, I thought about how far it must have traveled before I held it in my hands. Think about it. Keep reading...

.PAA Academy Day on November 16

Attention 8th grade parents! Portland Adventist Academy is excited to welcome your 8th grade student to our high school campus from 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM on Wednesday, November 16th! We have a fun day planned – just for 8th graders – when students can get a glimpse of the high school experience at PAA, see classrooms, meet teachers, and hear about the clubs, activities, and programs offered. There will be drawings for tuition, fees and prizes, as well as several opportunities to win scholarships by participating in academic challenges. Lunch will be provided. That evening, we will host an open house for parents from 6:30 PM until 7:30 PM, with drawings for tuition and fees and a short meeting at 7:30 PM. Oregon Sinfonietta Concert at Sunnyside
On Sunday, November 6, at 3:00 pm, The Oregon Sinfonietta, under the baton of Dr. Donald L. Appert will feature Cello Concetro by Appert with Diane Chaplin as the soloist and Symphony in E Minor op. 32 ("Gaelic") by Beach. The concert will take place at Sunnyside Adventist Church, 10501 SE Market Street, Portland, Oregon. This will be an outstanding concert you won't want to miss.

PAA Student Scholarship Benefit
Portland Adventist Academy is holding the 2022 annual PAA Student Scholarship (PAASS) Benefit “Strings & Stories” on Sunday, Nov. 6, with informal reception at 2:30 pm and program at 3:00 pm. This year’s event is being held in the intimate setting of the PAA library, where guests will hear the inspiring story of professional musician and 2018 PAA alumnus Ivan Danilich, and how attending PAA changed his life. Today Ivan is a professional guitarist who plays classical, acoustic and electric guitar, as well as teaching guitar online and now at PAA. He will present a short concert during the benefit event.
