Holiday Sip & Stamp

Friday, November 11 from 6:30-8:30pm

Learn to carve your own stamp and print it on greeting cards, fabric gift bags, or Swedish dishcloths! You can choose from holiday designs or bring your own printed design sized to 4×5 inches.

Students will leave the class knowing how to:

  • transfer images to the block,

  • use a lino cutter to carve the block,

  • stamp test prints,

  • ink a plate and block, and

  • make final prints on paper and fabric.

Students take home the stamps they made to be used again and again. Students can try out and select from soft-cut or linoleum blocks. All skill levels accepted and lovingly appreciated. Good for kids as young as 10 with good fine motor skills.

Join with your friends or take part solo, bring your favorite drink (wine and beer are great, no cocktails please), a glass for sipping, a snack, and enjoy a class in a casual party atmosphere where you’ll end up with one-of-a-kind holiday greeting cards created by you!

Select the Design for Public Art on Highway 99 at Mack Road

The Clean California program provides investments in community engagement and education to transform unsightly roadsides into spaces of pride for all Californians. Through this program, I was hired to design two triptychs (a set of 3 panels) to be installed along Highway 99 at the Mack Rd over-crossing. The intention is for the panels to represent the spirit of the surrounding community. I just finished 6 triptychs to choose from, take a look.

Make Cool Stuff with Us this Spring

I am very excited to be teaching MAKR 140 Introduction to Making this Spring at Sacramento City College! The class is in the NEW and improved MakerSpace on campus and runs January 14 to May 18 for ~2 hours each Friday.

Pam and I are still detailing out the projects for the course but we know there will be 6 guided projects and one final project of your choice. We will use the tools in the space to make projects similar to:

  • 3D printing a cookie cutter (similar to above-I did not make this one),

  • laser cutting a small sign or coaster,

  • designing, printing, and cutting out stickers,

  • printing on fabric or sublimating a design onto fabric with a heat press,

  • two more projects with CNC (Computer Numerical Control) machining,

woodworking and metalworking, electronics, microcontroller programming,

  • textile making, weaving looms or working with unconventional/upcycled materials.

There are so many neat tools and creative projects we have to narrow down!

Unconventional Materials

There is an account on Instagram by @DearToday where artist Charity Ridpath makes sculptural & wearable jewelry from single-use plastics like food containers & bubble wrap. I have been studying it for months and lucky for me she taught a class on how she transforms all these materials into gorgeous jewelry. So I’m in my studio melting plastic and getting weird. Stay Tuned!

My beloved grandmother recently passed away. Grandma was an epic caregiver; showing her love through never-ending meals, cookies, back rubs, hugs, and treats. She had dementia in her last few years which was really hard to watch, the artwork above is a reflection on that struggle. I put her biography on my website many years ago if you want to learn more about her.
