Fall News from

Bobolink Farm
Homecoming

As most of us change clocks today, it's an appropriate time to wonder how the last few months have sped by so quickly. I like to send updates every two months, but haven't managed a newsletter since July! (If you find yourself curious for more frequent updates, you can find a new photo each day on Facebook or Instagram....)

The sheep are shorn (mostly) and back in pastures close to home, after having spent the summer in three different spots around town, ready to return to the barnyard for the winter in a few weeks. Although garlic still needs planting, the garden harvest has been canned, frozen, or stored away. And you might have noticed construction activity at the farmstead as you drive by: The last of the rubble from the old barn is being taken away, in preparation for an eventual hoop barn, and a new sugarhouse is in progress!

We look forward to "coming home" as well, and spending time with family over the winter holiday season.

Cheers,
Carol & Bruce
It is stick season, but the unseasonably warm weather means that the grass has still been growing, and the sheep have been enjoying their last few weeks of pasture. (I'm not sure if they enjoy their bear neighbor we spotted the other day, however!)
A variety of rugs are available. These are custom woven by Nelly Detra Wolf, and make great gifts for the winter holidays! We're eagerly awaiting a new batch, which will be mixed grays. For now, we have different solid and striped designs in natural colors. Prices range from $180-220, depending on style.
Next spring's sugaring will happen in the new sugarhouse! Happily, we salvaged some boards from the old barn, which are being used for the framing. The metal roofing will also be reclaimed from the old barn pile. It's exciting to have a dedicated space, with room not only for equipment storage but also for a few folks to play tunes by the evaporator!

Critter Corner

The pond has been busy with the usual bird suspects this fall: swallows, mergansers, kingfishers, mallards, herons. While the Great Blue Heron is a regular, it's always striking to see it on the banks of the pond and cruising watchfully over the fields.

RECIPE: Merguez Sausage

No need for a recipe with these delicious linked Merguez sausages, co-processed by Babette's Table in Waitsfield! They're great in a bun or in a casserole. If you're looking for inspiration, this recipe from Food & Wine magazine looks intriguing: Oven-braised chick peas and Merguez with yogurt and mint.

NOVEMBER SALE: Boneless Lamb Legs

We have an abundance of boneless lamb legs, which are on sale for for $14.00/lb through the end of November (regular $16/lb). They're versatile and easy to deal with--and make a great addition to your fall/winter holiday table.

There is plenty of Merguez on hand, as well as most other cuts, though in more limited quantities.

We are also accepting pre-orders for whole lambs ($10/lb), available December, January, or February.

To order, call or send a message. Or stop by!
