This Sunday, the Global Committee will be leading us in worship with Dr. George Johnson, who is the Chair of the Kamloops United Church Global Committee, speaking.  To mark the COP27 meetings taking place in Egypt, we will be focussing on Climate Change.  Joining with congregations around the world, we will be lighting candles.

Tomas Bijok, KUC Music Director, will be leading us in music.  The KUC choir will be leading in hymns, based on the environment, some of which are new to the congregation.

Here's a big thank you to the amazing Derm Strong for hosting Walks with Derm this fall! We love you, Derm

A big thank you goes out to Barb Hollingshead and Sharon Rhodes who organize the receptions following Memorial Services at KUC....and a big thank you to all those who assist them in this very important ministry of hospitality.

For a number of weeks, they have been asking for baking for the Congregational Memorial Service on Saturday November 12.  They asked us to put the following in this week's eNews:

Thanks to everyone who responded to our request for baking for the memorial reception happening Saturday November 12.  When we consider what has come in and what we are expecting from folk who have indicated that they will be providing cookies or squares, our guests will be well fed.  Thanks all!

NEXT WEEK: Just Conversations!

Justice work in the church can often feel lonely and discouraging, working for change that doesn’t come easily, if it comes at all. Just Conversations is a monthly online gathering for anyone in PMRC wanting to connect with others involved with justice work around the region. It will be a chance to deepen your justice work in your faith, share stories about what is happening around the region and develop strategies for working together to support each other in “being the change.”
Just Conversations will take place on the third Thursday of every month, at 10am. Next week's will be on November 17.
  • Just Conversations is free and drop-in style
  • Open to ministry personnel and congregation members · Registration is required for the Zoom access. Register here.
On Monday, PIT Stop received a $10,000 cheque from Farm2Chefs.  CFJC was here to cover this event.   To read more, CLICK HERE.  Photo credit: CFJC.
We are super excited about our upcoming Christmas Bazaar
Saturday December 3 from 10am to 3pm.

Please put this date in your calendar and plan to attend. We will have our annual poinsettia sale, craft sale, Christmas room, gift wrapping, delicious lunch, photos with Santa, kids games and much more!!

We need some help:

Baking please! Kamloops loves our baking and it is a great fundraiser for the church. Doreen Lister is leading us this year! Fresh baking brought in the day of or the day before is great. If you want to freeze that is great too. Please no dairy and remember to use good food safe conditions when baking at home (no cross contamination). Package in zip lock or plastic wrap and bring the list of ingredients.

We also need more volunteers. If you are available to help plea
se email Florence admin@kamloopsunited.ca or call 250-372-3020.

As we honoured those from our congregation's past at last week's Service of Remembrance - 34 men gave their lives in World War One from Fourth Avenue Methodist Church and St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church - we went searching for some more of our history.  Here is a picture of Fourth Avenue Methodist Church, built in 1911.  It sat on the corner where Kamloops United Church sits today.  In 1925 the Methodist and Presbyterian Churches in Kamloops merged to form KUC as part of the new United Church of Canada.  The United Church of Canada was the first such union of diverse denominations in the world.  The pattern has been followed since to form various types of united churches in the Philippines, Australia, England, the United States, North India and South India.   In Canada, the Congregational Church was also involved in the original union and in 1968, the Evangelical Brethren Church joined.   Today the United Church of Canada maintains membership in the World Council of Churches, the World Methodist Church and the World Reformed Church (Presbyterian).
