PRINCIPALS PEN

Can you believe we’re in Week 5!

I was interested to read this article from the highly regarded Australian Education Research Organisation (AERO) relating to the perceived competition between research evidence and context when it comes to education. The two can be pitted as opponents, resulting in some evidence-based practices being dismissed as “not relevant” or “unlikely to work” due to contextual factors. I’ve heard school leaders at both Fitzroy Crossing and North Cottesloe say “but that won’t work for our students” and they were talking about the same practice! The review conducted by AERO found that three  things - formative assessment, mastery learning and explicit instruction - are effective teaching practices across a variety of contexts and for different subgroups of students.

To mark the term’s ‘hump day’ we will have choir practice in the staff room straight after school on Friday. After a hectic start to the term I do hope you’ll be able to join us for a drink or 2 and some more relaxed social chat.

Have a great week, everyone,

- Leon

COMPASS CORNER

We are continuing to increase the number of parents using Compass. We are nearly at 60%. Please continue to encourage the parents who are not using Compass to login as all communications will be posted on the platform, including your class news feed. Any parents that require support can contact the front office.

Compass makes it easier than ever to mark the roll, you can even do it from your phone through the Compass App. Can we please ensure we are marking the roll, even if you have assemblies/school activities. We have seen a drop off over the last week so please ensure you mark the roll on time every day.

- Jaiyden and Jen

STAFF DRINKS A.K.A "CHOIR PRACTICE"

This Friday 11 November is the long awaited revival of "Choir Practice"!

For those of you that don't know, in the past 'choir practice' was called over the PA to announce that drinks in the staff room were on. On Friday, come on down to the staff room for a drink or two!

*ps: singing tolerated, not actually encouraged*

Thank you

PAT DATA ANALYSIS

We will be using the PAT data for year on year comparison, however the information can be used to drill down to a class or individual student level. This can be achieved by creating a group report for each test, which outlines their scores, stanines and percentiles, as well as the correct and incorrect answers. This video demonstrates how to download a group report for your class, and how to view the results for an individual student. When analysing individual students you can view by question number, question difficulty and strand for a deep dive into potential lines of inquiry. If you would like some PLon PAT analysis please let me know.

Thank you - Jen
