  • A special treat is in store for sky enthusiasts around the Bay Area and along the West Coast, where the #eclipse will be visible from beginning to end, without interruption by moonrise or moonset on Tuesday, Nov. 8.
  • The first cases of a highly infectious strain of bird flu that has killed millions of birds in the United States this year have been detected in Marin County. Morgan Giammona, the owner of the Tomales Bay Pastures hen and egg farm in Marshall, said his flock of 4,000 hens is especially at risk given that they feed in open pastures on grasses and bugs, exposing them to wild birds that pass through the area every day.   • Family and friends of Coast Miwok activist Theresa Harlan gathered on Tomales Bay on Sunday to launch a tule canoe. The 15-foot boat wasn’t ready for paddling, but the public is welcome at a launch celebration at McNears Beach in San Rafael on Nov. 12. (PRLight w/paywall)

Unsettled weather created some incredible sunrise and sunsets last week, this sunset was from Friday. A Hog Island truck rolled over on Hwy 1 on Saturday, sounded like everyone was ok.

Monday

  • Free Covid-19 rapid take-home tests are available for pickup for people who live or work in West Marin from 11 a.m. to noon on Mondays and Fridays at West Marin Community Services.
  • A mending circle meets from 5 to 7 p.m. every Monday in the Jack Mason Museum room of the Inverness Library. Bring your project and any bobbles and notions to share. Basic sewing tools and alteration advice from Sherry Baty will be available.
Tuesday
  • Today is Election Day. Please drop your ballot off at a local vote center or drop box by 8 p.m., or put it in the mail for postmark today. West Marin’s vote centers are at the Multi-Services Center in Point Reyes Station, the San Geronimo Valley Community Center and the Bolinas Community Center. You can also vote in person at the Marin County Elections Office.
  • The Bolinas-Stinson Union School District board meets at 5 p.m. on the second Tuesday of the month at the Bolinas School. 
Wednesday
  • Greg Smith describes the Climate Cafés, a project of West Marin Climate Action, during the regular meeting of the West Marin Rotary Club at 8:30 a.m. online. For an invitation, email info@rotaryclubwestmarin.com
  • The Tomales Village Community Services District board meets at 7 p.m. on the second Wednesday of the month at the Tomales Town Hall. 
Thursday
  • Nancy Hepp, Laura Pole and host Michael Lerner discuss “Three Surprisingly Effective Complementary Cancer Therapies: Aspirin, Vitamin D and Melatonin” online from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Presented by the New School at Commonweal. Sliding-scale donations welcome. Register at www.tns.commonweal.org.
    The Point Reyes Station Village Association meets on Zoom at 6:30 p.m. on the second Thursday of the month. Information at www.pointreyesstation.org

Friday
