Bundles of Joy

Dear CAA Member/Friend:

Approximately 20 percent of the 100 babies born each month at the Carlos Luis Valverde Vega Hospital in San Ramón need extra care and attention. Perhaps it is because the mom is impoverished with extremely limited resources or the baby is premature and has special needs. To help with this challenge, each month a group of talented and committed “Blankets for Babies” volunteers creates and delivers 20 newborn welcome bundles to the hospital. Each bundle consists of a plastic changing mat, a blanket, burping cloths, rubber pants, reusable diapers, and a toy. Mothers of premature babies also receive a carrying sling.

Dra. Ishtar Calderón Sánchez, the Director of the Breastfeeding and Development Clinic at the hospital, has found this help to be invaluable to their most challenged moms and babies. “We are extremely grateful for the support and commitment of these ‘Blankets for Babies’ angels. Their support has been constant as well as innovative since during the pandemic they added cloth masks for mothers to the package and currently, at our request, they are also delivering a sling-type blanket, not available in the marketplace, for our premature babies who need to be kept in kangaroo-like fashion as part of their treatment. We can’t thank them enough for their continued gifts and assistance.”

Please consider giving generously to CAA’s program to help children in poverty on Giving Tuesday, November 29. On that day, go to https://www.globalgiving.org/57142 to complete your donation.
