WELCOME!
What an exciting start to the school year! Our Anadarko team continues to strengthen as we add amazing new Student Support Coordinators. We welcome Clarissa Knight and Kali Alexander to our High School and Middle School. Along with our current Student Support Coordinators, they have started strong in the district with "Back to School" events and creating a district-wide student support for all Anadarko students called the "Warrior Store." They are ALSO ready to focus on strengthening family engagement.

A strong start to the school year was valuable to our team because it meant more students would receive more support for a longer duration. “We know our students and what they need, so we just jump in and go,” says Tribal Services Program Director Donna Richey. This team is committed to the community and the students they serve. Their support is made easy through their amazing collaboration with their school Principals and our strong relationship with the district administration. Thank you for taking the time to see just some of the work our team has accomplished.
LAST YEAR, WE MADE A BIG IMPACT
CIS of Mid-America served students and families in Anadarko in a variety of ways over the past year.
CIS of Mid-America has a proven track record of improving student outcomes in academic achievement and behavior patterns. Students participating in CIS of Mid-America projects have increased promotion and graduation rates, improved attendance, improved academic performance, and have fewer discipline referrals.

Our data shows that Anadarko students receiving individual case-managed services achieved the following results:
KIDS, KITES, & FRIGHTS
On October 22nd, Communities In Schools of Mid-America kicked off the Caddo County Kids, Kites, & Frights event with our second annual 5K Fun Run and 1-Mile Walk. Fifty-two runners and walkers enjoyed a nice early-morning activity to help support youth in the Anadarko Public Schools. The event raised almost $4,000 of support for the Anadarko programs through event registration fees and in-kind donations.
COMMUNITY PARTNER SPOTLIGHT

We can't say enough about our community partners, but we would like to highlight AVEM Health Partners.

AVEM has provided support in many ways.

  • Provided lunches to Anadarko High School students during ACT and Academic Prep Event.
  • Sponsored the "Be a Hero to Our Kids" 5K/1-Mile Race event and provided all volunteers and race participants a shirt.
  • Provided lunches to the Junior class during the Olympics, a 2-day event in which the junior class participated in study groups and fun interactive activities to prepare for the ACT.
  • Joined the CIS champions group in Anadarko to highlight the work of CIS of Mid-America in the community.
Thank you, AVEM Health Partners for being #AllinforKids!
STUDENT SPOTLIGHT

Hensley is a 3rd grader at East Elementary School in Anadarko. She has been a Communities In Schools Mid-America Student since her Kindergarten year. Leah, Hensley's mom, says, "Hensley has developed better study skills, improved in her reading and math, gained more confidence, and improved her social skills. [Her SSC] has also piqued her interest in learning more about her Native American Heritage. All I can say is you've had a very positive impact on Hensley, and we are very thankful for that." Hensley is a proud member of the Kiowa Tribe of Oklahoma and is discovering her culture and traditions. Her Student Support Coordinator, Theresa Plata, says, "I have had the pleasure of watching her grow into herself and have more self-confidence. She has a quiet, reserved side but make no mistake, this little girl is a powerhouse and represents herself, her school, family, and tribe with pride."
