The 27th United Nations Climate Change Conference of the Parties (COP27) in Sharm El Sheikh Egypt has begun. The two-week conference will convene most of the world’s nations to accelerate action towards the goals of the Paris Agreement and the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change. The founder and director of the Yale Program on Climate Change Communication Dr. Anthony Leiserowitz is at COP27 to report on public support for national and international climate action in the US and other countries. Please see below for details (all times local in Sharm El Sheikh, which is 7 hours ahead of EST).

Description: The Yale Program on Climate Change Communication and the China Center for Climate Change Communication will present results from surveys of public opinion about climate change in China, India, the United States, and in 110 countries, territories, and areas worldwide. The studies find that the public in China, the US and India – the three largest annual national emitters – and in the majority of countries worldwide support climate action by their own governments. In addition to Dr. Leiserowitz, presentations will be made by Dr. Binbin Wang, Principal Investigator of the China Center for Climate Change Communication, and Dr. Jagadish Thaker of the University of Auckland.

Empowering Communities to Take Climate Action Through Online Tools

Description: A panel discussion on how online tools can be leveraged to help communities take climate action and address some of the challenges of climate action and behavior change. In addition to Dr. Leiserowitz, the panel will include Brett Jenks, President and CEO of RARE; Ravi Prabhu, Director General World Agroforestry (ICRAF); Vincent Gonguet, Director of Product Management for Climate at Meta; and Emily Wood, Lead Researcher for Climate at Meta.
