This week the Department for Transport and Innovate UK announced the first set of winners for the First of Kind (FOAK) 2022 competition. Winners will receive funding to help develop novel technology which improves rail freight services and lowers carbon emissions from trains. The last two or three weeks have been extremely busy with so many great industry events taking place - including GCRE's meet the buyer eventand the GCRE Competition briefing that took place the following day in Cardiff. What an amazing opportunity for the supply chain!
The week after that we were at RIA's Annual Conference! It was an incredible couple of days meeting with RBDC members and also hearing from some incredible speakers about what's happening in the industry right now and what the future is set to look like. New rail minister Huw Merriman made his first public appearance in the role at the Railway Industry Association (RIA) conference - “Rail is the connective tissue that improves lives” says Merriman at RIA conference. This was closely followed by RIN York which took place last week! An astounding success and extremely well attended. Networking at its finest!

Industry Reports: A new railway industry report looking at the economic, environmental and social benefits of UK rail has revealed how reducing travel times by train would boost job creation across the country.
The analysis, commissioned by the Railway Industry Association and conducted by independent researchers Oxford Economics, found that a 10 percent reduction in journey times would lead to up to 17,600 jobs in London, 9,000 in the West Midlands and 8,200 in Scotland, due to people having easier access to employment. Launch of #TheGoal for White Ribbon Day - Rail Business Daily is urging the industry to join forces in backing this year’s White Ribbon Day, in making a stand against violence against women and girls.
White Ribbon's mission is to prevent violence against women and girls by addressing its root causes. Its aim is to change long established, and harmful, attitudes, systems and behaviours around masculinity that perpetuate gender inequality and men’s violence against women.
