Kingsley Cafe Lunch Helpers

A shout out to the Kingsley Comets who have been helping at the Kingsley Cafe. Starting a few weeks ago, our older Comets began volunteering to supervise the waste station during lunch, helping the Kingsley community do our part to support our planet by separating our lunch into compost, landfill, and recycling.
Three-to-four 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders volunteers help the younger comets, as well as support their classmates, to ensure there is no contamination in our composting efforts. In addition, two-to-three 4th graders help wash tables after their lunch to ensure that our 1st graders have a clean area to eat.
The Cafe helpers earn 'gotchas' that are entered into a drawing for a special surprise. Classrooms with good behavior during the lunch peroid can also earn 'gotchas' and be entered in the drawing. Keep up the great work Comets!

Connections for the Homeless

Kingsley 4th graders prepared bagged lunches for Connections for the Homeless last week.
Interested in helping support its mission further? Connections for the Homeless are always looking for new volunteers to help out. Find out more on their volunteer page.
They currently need bagged lunches, help sorting clothes at the shelters, and help with their upcoming Winter Warmth event. Their current donation needs include NEW boxer shorts, gently used men's gym shorts and gently used men's jeans. You can purchase new items from their Daily Needs Amazon Wishlist.

Connections for the Homeless' Winter Warmth event will be held on Saturday, November 12 from 12:00 - 4:00pm at Lake Street Church at 607 Lake Street. You're invited to stock up on winter gear and shop the food pantry. There will be plenty of coats, scarves, hats, shelf stable foods and more! Street parking is available on Lake and Grove.

Book Closet - Help Needed This Friday

The Kingsley Book Closet is back and we can use some volunteers to assist kids as their classes come through to select books and restock in between class visits. The first Book Closet date is Friday, November 11th.  If you're available for one or more shifts we'd love to have you join!  The book closet takes place on the second floor, at the far end of the hallway (closest to Prarie St.) We'll have additional dates after winter break as well.

Sign up here to help on Friday, November 11 or Friday, December 16.

Last NU Football Parking - Nov 26th

If you're in town over Thanksgiving, please consider volunteering for the LAST Northwestern football home game! The game, versus Illinois, will be on Saturday, November 26th but the time is still TBD. We made $2,400 in under 2 hours this past weekend and hope to do it again for the Illinois game. Thank you to James Davies, Reuben Keller, Oren & Dean Schumaker and Bill Weidaw for their help last weekend.
Responsibilities are easy - show up at the Kingsley parking lot 2 hours before kick-off, collect money, and direct cars to parking spots in the lot. That's it! There is no need to return after the game, so once the lot is full or the game starts you are done. Sign up to help here.

We Are Collecting Candy Wrappers!

Created with the help of the National Wildlife Federation, the trick or trash box collects candy wrappers (and only candy wrappers) around Halloween to help keep all of this plastic out of landfills. To learn more about where this plastic goes-and how it gets recycled-go here

Tell your students - bring your candy wrappers to Kingsley after trick or treating!  The box is located just outside the office - under the PTA mailbox.

Kingsley Spiritwear Store

Kingsley has partnered with 1st Place Spiritwear to have an on-demand, online spiritwear store available all year round. We’ll earn back 10% of sales for the PTA, so you can feel good knowing that your purchase will support the Kingsley community.  Order today
Note: All students will receive a free Kingsley t-shirt this Spring (students receive free t-shirts every-other-year). If you have a student new to Kingsley, please email kingsleycometspta@gmail.com as we have lots of extra t-shirts from previous years.

Open PTA Volunteer Positions

Thank you to everyone who has volunteered to help so far. The PTA still has a few critical roles that still need to be filled for this year. For a complete list and to sign-up, see here. If you have any questions or want more information contact erinwade.pta@gmail.com or sarah.weidaw.pta@gmail.com

Bulletin Board Coordinator(s)

Mr. Davis has asked us to manage several of the school bulletin boards. We have ideas and a timeline but need someone to execute designs. Each bulletin board should take approximately 1 hour. Volunteer to do it once or on a regular basis. Have ideas or topics for a bulletin board? Please let us know!

Lunch Help Needed

Join us at the Kingsley Comet Cafe to help children open food items, encourage them to eat, help them clean up afterward (including recycling and composting waste), and be on hand during recess (if you want). Volunteering for lunch duty is a great way to meet the other children in your Comet's grade as well as other parents volunteering with you. Sign up in advance, or stop by when you can (lunch and recess times listed in the link). Just be sure to register with the front office upon your arrival.
