The Portland Branch, like many other organizations, has had to readjust and rethink our leadership and program. We are happy that many of you renewed and that we were able to revive in-person interest group gatherings and monthly speaker programs. Regrettably, we are not able to hold one of our favorite events, the all-member holiday celebration.
As you know, the branch moved into hiatus for the year and has been operating with an interim administrative team. We need to start planning now for next fiscal year. To move Portland Branch beyond our 118 years, we need permanent leadership. For that reason, the January meeting will focus solely on officers and program. Every member needs to take part in the discussion. Please plan to attend this in-person meeting where important decisions will be made about our future.
Ilga Ross, Administrator

Eileen Elliot Remembered
We are sad to share the news of the passing of Eileen Elliot on November 17th. Eileen had received the diagnosis of stage four lung cancer three to four weeks ago and thankfully did not linger in this disease. Eileen was very loved both by her AAUW friends and her family.
Our Portland branch benefitted from Eileen’s membership in so many ways! She was a very generous member of The Century Club, in addition to giving to the PCC Foundation annually. Eileen was very active in AAUW. Eileen served as a director at large for at least two years as well as corresponding secretary for several years. Eileen was very active in book groups, lately “Literary Comments and Criticism”. Her comments were always insightful, noting points in the book that much younger members might have missed. Eileen had a Bachelor of Science from Cornell University and was proud of her success in her nursing career.
Eileen's family is considering / planning a memorial service for her this coming December. Please contact me, Katie, to keep informed of the time and place.
Thanks to your generosity, we have been able to award one or more scholarships to Portland Community College students every year. The Portland AAUW Board is pleased to announce an exciting opportunity that will ensure future scholarships for many years to come. With your support, we will be funding theAAUW Portland Branch Endowed Scholarship, which will be managed by the PCC Foundation. Read more>
For more than 130 years, AAUW has funded the educations of countless women so they could follow their dreams. Fellowships and grants were awarded to more than 320 women and community projects in 2022-23 totaling over $6M in fellowships and grants for the academic year. Read more>
Here is the link explaining the next phase of what must be done to have the city government that was voted in by referendum in the last election. There are four committees where you can sign up to participate but you must do it by December 1st. This is a very exciting time for Portlanders. Hope you will be a part of it.
