Parish Building Vandalism

Over the weekend, the Sharp Center on our St. Symphorosa campus was illegally trespassed by at least two individuals, possibly more. Multiple fire alarms were pulled early Sunday morning, causing the Chicago Fire Department to respond. Then on Sunday afternoon/evening, individuals returned; this time, causing significant vandalism on the main floor.

This was an aggressive act of vandalism and a disrespect to parish grounds. Chicago Police are involved, and evidence has been collected.

If anyone in our parish or neighborhood has information about this incident, please notify the Chicago Police Department and/or the parish office. There is significant damage, and the ensuing mess will require hours of cleanup so that our various parish groups can use the building.

As pastor, this incident makes me tremendously sad that someone’s heart is so troubled that they would want to illegally trespass on one of our buildings and cause extensive damage. We also want to be concerned for the safety of any human person in our buildings at any given time. We pray for justice in this matter.

If you saw anything or know anything, please assist police and the parish.
