Hi!

My last week's e-mail on churches made of bones has made a macabre twist one wouldn't necessarily expect when reading travel content.

But it has become quite obvious that wars and unrest shape the ways we approach traveling, even if we forget lessons of the past.

The closest I got to the feeling of a danger zone was traveling through Ethiopia a couple of years ago, while the country was in “a state of emergency”.

Experiencing pat-downs by semi-military personnel during impromptu check-ups, or hearing reports about bomb explosions and shootouts in some towns, was certainly not pleasurable. But I made it safely through my two-month-long trip, and I never felt seriously endangered.

As long as we can be properly informed, there is no reason to approach traveling as a particularly risky human activity.

Luckily, the security service company Global Guardian has analyzed existing and potential factors of risk for traveling in the world and detected the safest and most unsafe destinations in 2023.

I believe them when they say: “Conflict is not about the ‘where’, but rather, it is about the ‘when’.”

For instance, I could write about the Halloween stampede nightmare in Seoul one week, but already 7 days later the breaking news of South Korea could be the launched missiles from their unstable northern neighbor.

The geopolitical situation is in a constant state of change, but if we trust those who make a living from observing the world of risk and finding security solutions for their clients, we can actually adapt our travel choices to the predictions of change.

If you are planning a trip in the foreseeable future, make sure to consult the list of the safest countries in the world to travel to. It doesn’t matter if you plan to visit Europe, Africa, the Caribbean, or even the Middle East. You will find helpful advice in this assessment.

Have another safe week!
