Dear Faith Family,
Well, today, I got my first Christmas letter of 2022 in the mail. It was a sweet note from an old friend. The letter was written on candy stationery with snowflakes and filled with stories of the year in review. It was good to get the update! However, I must admit…. I did look at the calendar and wonder, “What happened to Thanksgiving?”
Thanksgiving always seems to get lost in the shuffle. Retailers go from spooky costumes to candy canes in less than 24 hours! I understand the reasoning. I am not naive to the money-making potential. And yet, I’m convinced that we don’t linger long enough in the realms of gratitude. Perhaps it is just me? But, the truth is…. I think we all need thanksgiving!
The Psalmist declares in Psalm 136:1, “Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good. His love endures forever.”
Over the next couple of weeks, I want to encourage you to take time to give thanks. I know your life is busy, and the days are short. But gratitude and thanksgiving are the soil from which great joy can grow. If you are out of the habit, it may take a little effort. But push beyond the ordinary lists. Sure, we are grateful for our family, but what specifically? What traits? What blessings? What evidence of God’s love and grace has been on display? Write them down. Count them. Name them, one by one.
I’d also like to invite you to celebrate Thanksgiving with your faith family on Sunday, November 20th, @ 6 PM. We will meet in the Worship Center for a time of worship, prayer, and corporate thanksgiving. We will share the Lord’s Supper together and then go to the HUB for desserts.
I am looking forward to this special night! Please plan to bring your favorite dessert to share and maybe some of the things you are thankful for!
You are loved!
Pastor Chris
