Apollo Eagles,
As the weather is changing and our clocks officially "fell back" on Sunday morning it is a good reminder for me to slow down and reflect on the first two months of this school year. Our school community has come together to embrace a new year and I have been so happy with what our students have been doing. I want to say a special thank you to all of the families that came to our first ever Apollo Family Dinner! Our student council served over 1000 meals to our Apollo families that attended conferences, it was a great night of community and conversation.
The month of October was College Knowledge month. Students participated all month long by learning about different colleges and universities, how to register for college and even assistance filling out a FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid). On October 28th a group of Apollo students had an opportunity to go to SCTCC for an EPIC (Exploring Potential Interests and Careers) event for hands on career exploration. To continue this focus on higher education, Apollo welcomed 50 different colleges and universities for our first ever on campus college fair to connect our student with more opportunities. It was an excellent season of encouraging our young people to embrace all of their potential for the future.
Looking ahead, the last day of Trimester 1 is Thursday, December 1st. If you feel your student needs support to finish the trimester successfully please reach out to me and I will be happy to connect them with the adult that can best support their needs. And, with the possibility of snow already in the forecast, I have included a short video from Superintendent Putnam on our inclement weather procedures that we will follow for the this school year.

Thank you for all of your support of our students and Apollo community. As always, if you have any questions, please do not hesitate to reach out.

Students who attended the EPIC field trip had an amazing opportunity to experience hands on activities in a variety of career paths. Students were able to explore careers ranging from mechanics to law enforcement to elementary education. A huge thank you to the St. Cloud Technical and Community College for organizing and hosting this event. In addition to a sincere thank you to the EPIC sponsors for the time, energy and resources they invested to make this event for our students engaging and meaningful.

For Families
- Allergy Reminder: Families
A reminder that all District 742 schools and programs are nut-safe, latex-safe and allergy aware. Please do not bring or send with your student any products that contain peanuts, tree nuts or latex. Please check labels to ensure a product is not manufactured in a facility with peanuts or tree nuts prior to bringing or sending it with your student to school. Many non-food items can also be used in the classroom to celebrate events. Thank you for taking the time to read labels and discuss the topic of safe snacks with your child.
- Illness Reminder: Families
As we transition into cold and flu season, the school nurses would like to remind families of District 742 General Illness Guidelines. If your student is ill and needs to be absent, please call the school office. If you have any questions regarding the illness guidelines, please contact the school nurse.

Credit Recovery is now in full swing during our Monday, Wednesday and Friday Eagle Time for thirty minutes each session. Seniors who need credits for graduation were enrolled into a Math, Science, Social Studies and Language Art class. These classes can assist students with making up any lost credit that would hinder their graduation status. This is a great opportunity to recover credits during the day if night school is not an option for students. All the credit recovery lessons are located in Schoology and as students complete each task, they can move on to the next.
Additionally, advanced placement students who have paid for the AP exam and decide to drop their AP class or not to take the exam should consider filling out an OPT out form. This can prevent a cancellation fee. For further information please contact Ms. Glieden (jessica.glieden@isd742.org).

The PBIS team focused on relationship skills for the month of October. We highlighted these lessons by celebrating Unity Day on October 19th. During advisory, students were able to share how they are unique, and how they contribute to a safe Apollo community. These notes were linked together and hung at the Apollo entrance.
|
|
During the month of November, PBIS is pushing for higher attendance rates at Apollo. We are encouraging this by starting an attendance challenge between each grade starting Friday November 3. As a reminder to families, if you need to excuse your child for an absence or an appointment, please call the Apollo attendance line.

Apollo 9th grade students had the opportunity last week to hear a presentation from our School Resource Officer, Officer Sherry. The purpose of this gathering was to build relationships and trust and show that Officer Sherry is an integral part of the community and school. He talked to them about laws, procedures, and policies and then opened it up for student questions. This gave students an opportunity to meet Officer Sherry and engage in a positive dialogue with him.
One of the I-Time activities in the month of October facilitated by the language arts department was “Who is Your Champion” The purpose was to help participants identify at least one adult they can approach for help or support. There was also a focus on qualities of a teacher who made them feel valued. This poster represents Ms. Morgan’s LA classes
