Ballot Issue 2J

The Town of Ault is asking the voters to approve a special sales tax increase on marijuana products being sold within the Town limits, this ballot measure is NOT asking whether or not to allow the sale of marijuana products, which is already allowed by Town ordinance. This is an additional sales tax on marijuana products only, it will not affect the general sales tax rate on any other products.

Please vote yes on Ballot Issue 2J to support projects such as funding for parks, open space and recreation, infrastructure improvements, economic development initiatives, land acquisition, affordable housing initiatives, and community support grants.

Reminder Regarding Leaves

As the weather gets colder and the leaves begin to fall from the trees around Town, please remember that it is against the Town of Ault Municipal Code to rake leaves into the street. Please bag up all yard debris for track pick-up.

A NOTICE FROM THE POLICE DEPARTMENT REGARDING THE NEW STOPLIGHT

By now everyone should have noticed the new stoplight at Highway 14 and Pawnee Road. This is the entrance to the Conestoga Subdivision and the Fire Station. The stoplight is fully functional and out of its flashing phase. Even though the stoplight is located within the city limits of Ault, this light was installed and is maintained by the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) as is the other lights along Highway 14. If you have any questions, concerns, or problems with the operation of this light, please contact CDOT. Staff at the Ault Town Hall are unable to help with these matters.

2023 Water and Sewer Rate Changes

It is that time of the year where upcoming planning will be taking place within Town Board of Trustees meetings regarding water and sewer rate increases. These updated rates are usually reflected between February and April of any given year and do happen on a yearly basis. If you would like to join in the discussion of these changes, please be sure to check the dates and times of upcoming Board of Trustees meetings to take part in the discussion and to have your voice heard.

Ault Housekeeping Request

Every year  we experience the necessity to use taxpayers dollars to have the  sanitation lines cleared.  In some cases this is inevitable, just as a routine part of maintenance.  Other times this could be avoided with the assistance of all who use those lines.

REQUESTS by the Public Works department and the Ault Town Board of Trustees:
  • NEVER flush paper towel, diapers, shirts and underwear, (yes, we have found these in the lines), flushers (used to clean the toilet, they are advertized to be flushable, but end up in many clogs) personal hygiene products, wet wipes or any other solid, volatile  or irregular substance that does not dissolve in water and can potentially cause a blockage.
  • -NEVER pour grease of any type down the drain.  Please place in a disposable container in the trash.
  • ALWAYS contact Town Hall if you are having a rooter service come to your property, as public works will need to watch the main line to keep it clear when your line is cleaned.
  • REGULARLY maintain your lines to keep it free of roots, etc. This will help to avoid backups for you and your neighbors.
  • RID-X is for septic systems, not treatment plants.  Do not pour this down your drains.
If you have any questions regarding this, please contact Town Hall for further clarification.

A Bit of Our History

First called High Land, the town's name was changed to Burgdorff Siding, sometimes called Bergdorf Switch (after a railroad worker who had been killed in an accident), before it acquired its current name in 1897.

The town was named after Alexander Ault, a Fort Collins, Colorado resident and owner of a flour mill. Mr. Ault had helped to avert financial disaster to the agricultural base by purchasing the entire grain harvest during a year of severe economic hardship. The town was incorporated in 1904.

Much of the residential area of the town, as well as surrounding farmland, is on land given by the United States government to the Union Pacific Railroad, to be sold to finance railroad construction. A north-south segment of the railroad connecting Denver, Colorado, and Cheyenne, Wyoming, passes through the town, parallel to U.S. Highway 85.

On February 21, 1910, Rabbi I. Idleson of Denver, Colorado, purchased 640 acres (2.6 km2) for farming purposes near Ault, proposing "to employ Jewish farmers and devote land to practical philanthropy". Little came of this venture, and within a few decades there were apparently no Jewish residents in the town.
Ault Public Emergency Radio Tower, a former emergency transmission facility, was located here.

"AULT" is sometimes used as an acronym - "A Unique Little Town."

Scenes from the 1977 film "One on One", starring Robby Benson and featuring a young Melanie Griffith, were filmed in various Ault locations.

Ault's only high school is named "Highland High School", which was changed from "Ault High School" when it combined with schools in nearby towns Pierce, Nunn and Carr, Colorado, in 1963. The Highland School District name comes from the high plains location, rather than the earlier name of the town of Ault, and there is no indication that the early name played any part in the naming decision. Highland High School's mascot is the Husky.
