Dear Church Family,
As hard as it is to believe, Christmas is right around the corner. Now, normally, I wait until Thanksgiving is past before turning my attention to Christmas. But, this year, the first Sunday of Advent is the Sunday following Thanksgiving! So, I thought I might share several opportunities for your family to participate in Christmas activities at FBC this year.
On Saturday, December 3rd at 5 PM, we will have our annual “Caroling on Our Lawn.” This is a great time of fellowship, Christmas carol singing, hot chocolate and Carpe Donuts. It is a wonderful event to invite friends and family to attend as we begin the month of December expectantly.
The next night, on Sunday, December 4th, we are delighted to once again host the musical group Veritas at FBC Park Street. This will be a memorable night of worship with a group known for their classic style. Doors open at 6 PM, Event starts at 7PM. Seating is general admission and there is no charge for the event. Again, this is a tremendous event which you can invite friends and family to join as we celebrate the season.
On Wednesday, December 21st at 6:30 PM, we will be hosting Doxology Collective from Bethel Baptist Church in Yorktown, VA in the FBC Park Street sanctuary. This night of worship will be in celebration of the release of their new CD entitled “Christ Has Come.” Again, there is no charge for the event and seating will be general admission.
And, of course, on Christmas Eve, we will gather at 5:30 PM for our annual Christmas Eve by Candlelight service. This service will last one hour and will end with a time of candle lighting as we sing Away in a Manger together as a church family. And, then, we will be right back in the sanctuary for worship on Christmas morning at 11:00 AM!
It will be a busy month, no question. But, I hope these opportunities will provide you and your family a respite from the commercialism that is so often associated with Christmas. My prayer is that these events will help you to focus your heart on the Reason for the Season: Jesus!
I look forward to worshipping with you this Sunday, either in-person or on livestream. This week we will continue our sermon series from the book of Nehemiah called “Vision and Grit.” Please read Neh. 5:1-19 in preparation for worship. And, don’t forget to set your clocks back on Saturday night! I hope to see you with a Bible in your hand, a smile on your face, and an unchurched friend by your side!
It is a joy to be your Pastor,
Pastor Rob
