Supportive supervision has been seen as an important component of health programs for many years, and it is one of the use cases for the design and implementation of digital tools for frontline health workers. As digital tools become more widespread and there are more sources of data readily available for health workers, supervisors, and health systems managers, there is an opportunity to present a framework for how supportive supervision can optimally be performed using digital approaches.

The Country Health Information Systems and Data Use (CHISU) program’s core activity on examining digital approaches to supportive supervision recently developed the Digital Approaches to Supportive Supervision Guidance Framework. This document is intended to highlight various ways that digital approaches to supportive supervision tools can be designed to address these issues, and ultimately strengthen the health system by improving the information available to managers, supervisors, and supervisees. As many facility and community based systems are digitalized, there is an excellent opportunity to strengthen supportive supervision, ensuring that this process is data driven and provides support to all stakeholders involved. CHISU is soliciting feedback from external stakeholders on the Framework to ensure that the theory, background information, and elements in the framework are following best practice and are applicable in most contexts.

Join us on Tuesday November 15 at 8AM EST for a consultation presenting CHISU Digital Approaches to Supportive Supervision Guidance Framework. In this first session, we will present the Guidance Framework, highlighting the landscape and assessments that led to the development of the Framework. Prior to the first session, the draft Guidance Framework will be shared with registrants.

A second session will be held on December 13 to solicit feedback and suggestions on how the Guidance Framework may be improved.
