Veterans' Day

It is all too easy to forget our Veterans. Most of us living today in these United States haven’t experienced “war” close to home. Thank you, Lord Jesus. WWI or WWII didn’t happen on our continent, but it claimed the lives of many of our sons and daughters, brothers and sisters, fathers and mothers, friends and neighbors. Unlike Memorial Day, which remembers the fallen in all our wars, Veterans Day honors those who served and who are here with us today. Therefore, let us stop for one day this year to say, “thank you for serving!”

This Sunday in our Worship we will offer up our thanks to God for the men and women who are with us who offered their lives in service to God and country. Join us Friday, November 11, at 10 am for our special Veterans' Day Chapel. Thanks be to God for them, for their courage and sacrifice.

Pastor Carl

Every time we think of you, we thank God for you. Day and night you're in our prayers  as we call to mind your work of faith, your labor of love, and your patience of hope in following our Master, Jesus Christ, before God our Father.  It is clear to us, friends, that God not only loves you very much but also has put his hand on you for something special.
1 Thessalonians 1:2-4 (The Message paraphrase)

I have to confess, I was caught by surprise this past Sunday, when our head elder Paul Arndt appeared at the end of the 8 am service for Pastor Appreciation Sunday.

Thank you, Faith family, for the joy of being your pastor and shepherd under the Good Shepherd, Jesus Christ our Lord!

Pastor Carl
Faith Lutheran School will be holding a Veterans' Day service on Friday, November 11, 2022, at 10:00 am in the sanctuary. Students from the school will also be participating in the service and the public is invited to join us as we give thanks to our Lord for those who served our country.

Coach Shea is putting together a video for the service. Photos need to be sent digitally to Jessica.Shea@FaithMarietta.org. Information needed with the photo(s): name of person or persons that served or are serving in the military, time served, rank, branch of service. All photos much be sent in by November 4, 2022.
The Altar Guild is in need of volunteers for both services. It’s a monthly commitment and you serve either early or late service with a team member. Depending on how many teams we have, you may serve 2-3 months a year, usually the early team for that month sets up on Saturday morning, the late team cleans up after late service. If you are interested please call Debbie Schellman 770-896-2331 or Jackie Jones 404-316-1587 and we will be glad to answers your questions!
Youth Night – Devotion, Fellowship, Fun

We are having a youth campfire night on Saturday November 12 from 6-8 PM in the outside picnic area at the church. There will be games, s'mores, and pizza. Parents and youth and their friends are all invited to attend as we re-start our youth ministry at Faith and gain support and get organized for future youth DFF (devotion, fellowship, and fun) events.

We envision two youth programs going forward: one for middle school (Grade 5 - Grade 8) and one for high school (Grade 9 – Grade 12). For this campfire youth night event, all youth and parents from Grade 5 to Grade 12 are invited.

Separate middle school and high school youth DFF events are currently planned for Sunday December 4. Stay tuned for more information on these events.

Remember that we have a high school youth Bible study on Sunday mornings between services from 9:30-10:30 AM in the youth room.  Also, the youth room is open for middle school and high school youth fellowship from 9:00-9:30 AM and 10:30-11:00 AM Sunday mornings after and before our Divine Worship Services.

Please pray for our youth ministry at Faith, that we help our youth grow in their baptismal faith and give them the armor to be strong in Christ.

Update on the Pastoral Transition Team

With Pastor Carl’s announcement that he will be retiring in June, 2023, the Pastoral Transition Team has been busy getting a lot of the background information together for the Call Committee, which will be formed in January, 2023.

A part of the process that the Transition Team is currently working on is preparing a “Congregational Self-Study” which is basically a report on the status of our Church – its mission, membership status, status of the various mission programs, etc., and a socio-economic overview of the community we are in. We are projecting to have this finished by the end of December. (The District will need this document to help them determine which possible candidates they can send us to evaluate.)

Another effort is to get the Congregation’s input on what “pastoral characteristics” does the Congregation feel are the most important in calling a new pastor. A survey has been put together to be handed out to the Congregation during the Sunday services on November 13 and 20. An email will also be sent out to all members of the Congregation. The surveys will need to be completed and returned to a drop-box that will be in the Narthex (or emailed to Paul Arndt at pkarndt@msn.com) by December 4. The plan is to be able to report back to the Congregation on the results of the survey at the next Voter’s Meeting on December 11.

We are also anticipating that we will be asking for nominations from the Congregation on possible Pastoral Candidates during the month of January 2023.

If you have any questions about the Call process, contact Paul Arndt or Russ Couch.

Director of the Board of Elders

It’s not too late to grab a box to fill! We can extend the box returns to November 9th but they must be in by then. Thank you for your support!

Welcome to the Food Pantry!!

On Sunday, November 6th, we will have an Open House at the new Food Pantry. We hope that all of you will come over to see what YOU have helped to accomplish.

We will be there from after early service until after late service. Pastor will be doing a Blessing of the Pantry after late service. It is located in the little white house between the church and the library.

Thanksgiving Food Bags

We will be collecting food items to help families through the Neighborhood Distribution at Brumby Elementary. Below is the shopping list of items needed to complete a Thanksgiving Dinner for those in need.  We’ll be giving out bags with the list attached after services on Oct. 30 and Nov. 6.  The bags need to be returned no later than Sunday, November 13th by the end of late service. The date is earlier this year as there will not be a food distribution the week of Thanksgiving.

Items needed (Please feel free to buy 1 or 2 items from the list below or buy the whole list for a family)

2 – 15 oz cans of yellow vegetables
2 – 15 oz cans of green vegetables
2 – 15 oz cans of sweet potatoes
1 – can of cranberry (whole or jellied)
1 – Dessert Mix – if you add cake mix don’t forget the icing
1 – bread or roll mix
1 – Stuffing mix
2 – breakfast items - cereal, muffin mix

You can also help by donating through the Social Ministry envelope in the pew backs marking it “Thanksgiving Meals” which will help to buy $15.00 grocery gift cards for the purchase of Turkey or Hams.  If you would like to purchase gift cards yourself, please put them in Debbie Schellman’s mailbox by Sunday, November 13th.  Please check all donations for expiration dates as we cannot donate expired food. We collected and made 124 bags last year, our goal is 200 this year.

THANKS FOR GIVING!
Faith's Food Pantry

Our next delivery to Brumby will be the week before Thanksgiving. We will be handling out the Thanksgiving bags with Wish List attached Sunday, October 30th and November 6th. The bags will need to be returned by Sunday, November 13th as we are delivering Tuesday, November 15th because there is no food distribution the week of Thanksgiving. Our goal is 200 bags. If you can help deliver on Tuesday, November 15th at 12:30, please let Sybil, Jan, or Mitzi know.

Thanks to everyone for your support of the pantry. The weekly community distribution at Brumby has climbed to over 200 families weekly.  Brumby served over 279 families yesterday with nine new families.
