Research Bulletin - October 2022 (Issue 80)

Across the world, research, development, and the application of innovation is transforming how we access and deliver healthcare. The pandemic taught us what could be achieved through collaboration and the focused application of scientific innovation in a national crisis.

Professor Dame Anna Dominiczak. Scotland's Chief Scientist for Health, spoke to Holyrood Magazine, earlier this month, outlining her belief that bold and co-ordinated action is required if we are to ensure research, development and innovation play a central role in the recovery and modernisation of NHS Scotland.

An extensive range of opportunities to get involved in research and innovation across Scotland published this month. The Chief Scientist Office are appointing a range of clinical leads to promote, deliver and develop research, development and innovation (RD&I) activity across a range of therapy areas; the Scottish Health and Industry Partnership (SHIP) have launched cohort 2 Innovation Fellowships; and in partnership with NHS Education Scotland, the Chief Scientist Office have announced the next round of Postdoctoral Clinical Lectureships, designed to provide research time for medical doctors who have completed a research degree (PhD or MD) and are currently working towards the completion of speciality training.

Also this month, first results from one of the larges studies into the long-term effects of COVID-19 have been published, ENRICH Scotland team features on IRISS podcast talking about research improving the lives of people living in care homes, and a range of upcoming events are also available for registration -  Research and Development Forum, NRS Diabetes conference and two online workshops to understand research and co-production in neuroprogressive and dementia research

We hope you find this issue useful and as always, your ideas, feedback and contributions are welcome.
